Jade has variant symbiotic organisms, which is a common phenomenon in all natural minerals. Jade symbiotic minerals differ in composition, structure, physical properties, and certain jade characteristics in appearance, which makes it difficult for beginners to distinguish and identify them. Common symbiotic minerals of jadeite include: sodium jade, siliceous jade, chromium jade, magnesium jade, tumbler, Mojiang stone, thunder stone, Longtan stone, green-skin stone, dragon stone, and Laoguotou, etc. 1. Sodium Jade (Water Jade) Sodium jade is similar to jadeite. Its main component is albite, which is what we call water jade or water jade in the market today. The specific gravity is 2.66, the Mohs hardness is 6, the block has no skin or is very thin, somewhat similar to the Xinchang stone of jadeite. Sodium jade is translucent, has better bottom water, and will not appear pure green. It is usually light cyan or light blue. It makes a dull sound when it collides, while jadeite makes a metallic sound. 2. Silica Jade (Water Jade) Siliceous jade has a specific gravity of 2.6 and a Mohs hardness of 6-6.5. Its main component is quartz. Most of its blocks are translucent and have a strong glass luster after polishing. Silicon jade ring faces or pendants are often available on the market. In the past, it was sold as produced in Malaysia, which deceived many people. The so-called Malay jade is siliceous jade that has been artificially dyed. Nowadays, siliceous jade is also classified into the category of water jade. 3. Chrome Jade (Tielongsheng and Ganqing) Chrome jade has a glassy luster at first glance, but its water content is low and its green color is dull. Chromium accounts for 50% of its composition. Chromium is the main element that causes the color of old pit jadeite, but chromium jade lacks aluminum. The Mohs hardness is 5 and the specific gravity is 3. The block has a sand crust, but no fog, and sounds hoarse when tapped. The biggest feature is that there is green but no water. 4. Tumbler The tumbler is hydrogrossular, also known as cool water. The raw stone of the tumbler is mixed among the raw jadeite stones. The large pieces appear to be new stones, while the small pieces are similar to old stones. They contain sand and water, and the base is mostly bright green and blue, and the color is in the form of diffusion or flakes. 5. Mojiang Stone Mojiang stone is an aluminum silicate with a specific gravity of 2.4 and a Mohs hardness of 5. The block has a black skin, but no sand or wax shell, and is very similar to the black sand of Mameng. The pine flowers are abundant and bright, but relatively soft, without bottom water, and the skin and flesh cannot be distinguished. The characteristic is that the pine flowers are messy and there is no water. 6. Thunder Stone It is a genetic variant. The Mohs hardness of this stone is 5 and the specific gravity is 3. The color of the sand shell is messy and rough, the blocks are uneven, the bottom is dry and waterless, there is no fog layer, and a very small number of them are also sunny green, but they are difficult to use and process and are fragile. There are also fine pieces of thunder-struck stones, but they are extremely rare, with a probability of one in ten thousand. If you are lucky, you may get a piece that looks like "Dragon and Water Everywhere". The characteristic is that the sand shell is loose and messy, and the green surface is very attractive. 7. Longtan Stone Longtan Stone is also a genetic variant stone. Mohs hardness is 6, specific gravity is 3.5, mostly black skin, no sand hair. The skin is often covered with green flakes, strips, and dots, but the color is not bright. There is no fog, no water, no color, the bottom gray skin is thin, and it is just grayish white after cutting. A few with bottom water can be made into small carvings, which are called 83 stone or 82 stone. The homophony of them is climbing stone, climbing jade, Bashan stone, and Bashan jade. 82 and 83 refer to the year of production. Its characteristic is that the surface is green and there is no bottom water.
