Jade seal: the art of seals, a thousand-year-old Chinese culture

Lu You has a poem that says: If flowers could speak, they would find them too talkative; but stones, which cannot speak, are the most lovable. The jade seal, with its unique color, pattern, rhythm, hardness, softness and shape, conveys messages and ideas silently, and its silence is louder than words.

Chinese seals have a long history and are a unique flower in the traditional culture of the Chinese nation. With their unique artistic form and rich and profound cultural connotations, they stand tall in the world culture and shine with the wisdom of the Chinese nation.

Chinese seal culture is known as one of China's four major traditional arts along with calligraphy, painting and poetry. It can be seen that Chinese seal culture occupies an important position in Chinese traditional art and culture. There are many materials for making seals, including gold, silver, copper, jade, etc. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, seals made of jade have become the favorite items of the royal family and dignitaries. To this day, it is still a favorite of many literati, scholars, and collectors.

Seals were invented as early as the Shang and Zhou dynasties.

As to when seals first emerged, there are different opinions in the industry. One theory is that the seal originated from its political role as a token of credibility. Another theory is that seals should be used in economics first and then transferred to politics.

In terms of time, the earliest seal that can be physically verified is the "Warring States Ancient Seal".

Regardless of whether seals were originally used as credentials or as symbols of power, today seals have become a unique art treasure that combines practicality and artistry.
