The floating flowers on jade refer to the distribution of colors on jade. From the appearance, the floating flowers appear to be a piece or a cluster of scattered colors composed of color roots and spots. In fact, it is green distributed in the form of silk threads and layers on the base of jade.

The color of the floating flowers is that the color-causing ions are brought into the jade during the formation process of jade, and thus the base is blended and intertwined. The base of jade, that is, the basic part of jade except for the color, has silky green or blue floating on the base, which is called floating flowers.

By chance, I found a piece of ice-type jadeite with floating flowers.

Initially, this piece of jade was intended to be carved into a landscape plaque. Look at the landscape outlined on it, is it an impressionistic landscape painting? The most important thing is: the beauty of floating flowers is based on the species. The finer and warmer the species, the denser the structure, the better the water head and the better the transparency.

At the same time, it was once designed with Taihu stones, bamboo and lotus leaves. The water quality of the material was very poor before, but after adjusting the water, the effect of the finished product was in stark contrast.

After some consideration, I decided to change my thinking and made an eight-armed Guanyin combined with inlay. Designed into the shape of lotus petals according to the card type.

After the plastic surgery

Based on the glass and ice types, the floating flowers are more unique and graceful, as if they were touched by fairy air, and light as if they were about to float up. Dots of green and blue are scattered among them, like stars in the sky, like the splashed ink in traditional Chinese painting, casual, elegant, clean and proud, without any rules or restrictions. Whatever you want it to be, don't worry about the beautiful artistic conception, just let your thoughts fly, nothing can stop it.

design

Design is actually very critical, because it is directly related to the entire structure and effect of the later stage. The design involves an eight-armed Guanyin standing on a lotus. It is symmetrical based on the proportions, but the Buddha water and instruments are different.

Carving·Rough

According to the design, a bas-relief was made and a rough blank was chiseled out.

Carving and polishing

The large chiseled piece was polished, becoming more and more three-dimensional, and the whole began to emerge. The most critical part is face-opening. This step is related to the success or failure of the work and is left to the last step.

Generally, the face of Guanyin is dignified and compassionate. Buddha statues, on the other hand, are often smiling, simple and honest. Some carving masters may accidentally make the faces of the figures dull or look a little fierce. Even if the material is good, the price will go down.

Because Buddhists believe that only a kind-looking person can bring good luck, otherwise the opposite. Among them, the labor cost of Guanyin is the most expensive, because the charm of Guanyin is all in the face, which actually requires relatively high labor.

Summary: Why are floating flowers so expensive?

The value of jade is determined by its type, water, color, and workmanship, and requires a comprehensive evaluation. A single factor cannot determine the entire value of jade. Floating flowers are an additional element of jade, and their role in contributing to the value of jade is still based on its type, water, color, and craftsmanship. Under the same conditions, floating flowers can serve as the finishing touch for jadeite and have an important impact on the overall value of jadeite.
