Do you know the meaning and cultural connotation of jade?

Jade culture is one of China's traditional cultures. It is a symbol of holiness, beauty, kindness and elegance. It is also an auspicious object for praying for good luck and fortune. It has always been highly praised by Chinese literati and has lasted for a long time. The combination of jade and Buddha - Jade Buddha, is a perfect combination of the essence of jade culture and Buddhist culture, with rich content and profound meaning.

Jade Buddha is an important part of Buddhist culture and Chinese jade culture. What does the jade Buddha mean in Buddhist culture? "Buddha" is homophonic to "Fu", which means blessings from generation to generation, continuous blessings, the cultivation of both blessings and wisdom, endless blessings and longevity, etc. It protects the wearer from bad luck and brings continuous blessings to his descendants. Maitreya Buddha, who is able to endure humiliation and bear heavy burdens, is extremely wise and has long been aware of worldly affairs. He often incarnates as a mortal and travels around. He has long been indifferent to the ridicule and scolding of the world. Only by enduring humiliation and bearing heavy burdens can he accomplish great things.

The Buddha's light shines everywhere and can drive away evil and avoid danger. The Dharma of Buddhism is boundless. In the face of the powerful Buddha's power, any evil thing has to retreat aside and evildoers dare not cause trouble. Wearing jade Buddha or placing jade Buddha ornaments can ward off evil and avoid disasters. In Buddhism, "Buddha" is considered to be the "supreme ruler of heaven, earth and the human world" who manages everything in the world, including life and money.

As long as you are kind-hearted, compassionate and do more good deeds, "Buddha" will bless you with wealth and keep you safe. The optimistic and open-minded Maitreya Buddha is always smiling and has a big heart. As the saying goes: laugh at the past and the present, and take everything with a laugh; with a big heart, he can tolerate everything, including the heavens and the earth. The couplet contains rich life philosophy, telling people that they should be optimistic and open-minded, indifferent to fame and wealth, and live in harmony with the world. According to the Chinese people's thousands of years of ideological inheritance, the jade Buddha is a symbol of auspiciousness and can be used to pray for good luck and fortune. Enshrining Buddha statues in temples can ensure auspiciousness in the area. Wearing jade Buddhas or placing jade Buddha ornaments at home or in the office can bring peace and tranquility. Compassionate and tolerant Buddha is a person of great wisdom, compassion and power. Only with a compassionate heart can he sympathize with and lend a helping hand to the people in the world who are suffering deeply. Only with a tolerant heart can he give those who have made mistakes and done evil in the world the opportunity to correct them. People learn the Buddha's compassion and tolerance, and learn to treat others with peace and humility.

The Jade Wu Shi Pai is a very unique jade jewelry. Although it looks very simple in appearance, it is actually not that simple behind the scenes. The surface of the jadeite Wu Shi Pai is very smooth, with few complicated carvings, but such a simple jade ornament can become a wishing card for people and protect its owner for a lifetime. Well let’s take a closer look at this Jadeite Wu Shi Pai today.

The original origin of the "Peace and Trouble" plaque is a jade plaque carved by Lu Zigang, a great jade carver in the late Ming Dynasty. One of the jade plaques had no decorations at all, so it was named the "No Trouble" plaque, which is a homonym of "no decoration", and symbolizes warding off evil spirits, avoiding disasters, and ensuring peace and health. In addition, the "Jade No Trouble" plaque is smooth and complete, without cracks or streaks, and is not decorated with any carvings, symbolizing a safe and fulfilling life, and also implies that "plainness and simplicity" is the true meaning of life.

The surface of the Wu Shi Pai is clean and has no carvings on it. It is also called the Ping An Pai. Common materials include Hetian jade, white jade and jasper. Because this kind of Wu Shi Pai is flat and smooth and has beautiful meaning, it is deeply loved by everyone. A small Wu Shi Pai not only contains the great wisdom of Buddhism, but is also the best sustenance for people to pray for peace and joy. Some people call the Wu Shi Pai "461 Wu Shi Pai". In fact, "461" represents the size of the Wu Shi Pai, which is 4cm wide, 6cm high and 1cm thick.

The shape of jadeite Wu Shi Pai is generally rectangular, and some may be round or oval. The materials of Wu Shi Pai are mostly jade, jadeite, and precious wood. The unprocessed Wu Shi Pai weighs more than 40 grams, and the processed one weighs 15-30 grams. Different styles have different weights after processing. Deep carving can reduce the weight and produce fine workmanship, so there is no such thing as having the best of both worlds, guaranteeing both the weight and the fine workmanship. But fine craftsmanship also has artistic value. If the carving is good, the added value will be high.

1. In terms of connotation, plain Hetian jade plaques are usually polished to be flat and smooth, and the "flat" in it means "peaceful and safe". There is nothing carved on it, which means there are no words on it. It is homophonic with “nothing”, which means “nothing”. Put together, it means "safe and sound", and is usually referred to as the "peace brand".

2. Buddha said: Nothing is something, having nothing means having everything. Therefore, the "Wu Shi Pai" is regarded as a "wishing card" and a talisman and everyone competes to own it. It is said that as long as you make a wish or blessing on the "Wu Shi Pai", the wish will come true and protect you throughout your life.

3. "Nothing is nothing, nothing is a good thing" and "It is better to have less things to do than more" are the simple philosophies of us Chinese. Therefore, people generally like to make a jade pendant, similar to a peace locket, for their children to ensure their safety when they go away (either to study or travel).

4. The origin of the jade peace and safety pendant and Buddhist culture. Chinese culture is profound and extensive, and the meaning of the jade peace and safety pendant is exactly in line with our Chinese Buddhist culture. In traditional Chinese famous paintings, we are familiar with a word called "white space", and this Wu Shi Pai has a similar meaning.

The value of the jadeite Wu Shi Pai. Is the Wu Shi Pai really “without decoration”? It is true that some Wu Shi Pai have no carvings at all, but for the sake of beauty, traditional Wu Shi Pai are carved with auspicious patterns to ward off evil and bring good fortune, implying that everything will go smoothly, and that evil spirits and disasters can be warded off, and peace and health can be blessed. These patterns are usually located at the top of the card.

There is no need for any carving, but the jade material must be complete, without any cracks or flaws, which is very difficult for natural jade. Because of its beautiful meaning and high quality requirements, the jadeite Wu Shi Pai has a higher collection value.
