The traditional method of identifying jade is mainly based on visual observation, which is based on the accumulation of jade knowledge and practical experience of looking at and touching it more. In summary, it is "one look, two touch, three weigh, four listen, five measure, six smell, and seven lick".

1. Look: refers to looking at the characteristics of jadeite, its structure and color, and checking for defects. You can observe it towards the light to see the crystal transparency, internal structure, gloss, etc.

2. Touch: Jade has good conduction effect and transfers heat and dissipates heat quickly, so when you put jade on your face or on the back of your hand, you will feel a cool feeling. Jade has high hardness and a dense and fine structure. After polishing, it has a very high surface finish and feels smooth and delicate to the touch.

3. Weigh: The density of jadeite is higher than that of similar nephrite, Dushan jade, Xiuyan jade, Australian jade, etc., but lower than that of grossular garnet and hydrogrossular garnet. An experienced person can preliminarily determine whether a piece of jade or jade piece is jadeite by weighing it.

4. Listen: Listening carefully to the sound of jade products hitting each other can also help to distinguish their authenticity. Natural jade, especially jade products with good quality, will make a very crisp and pleasant sound when struck. Judging by listening requires a certain amount of experience as a basis. Only when you are familiar with the sound of jade collision can you roughly judge whether it is jade and what kind of jade it is based on the sound quality.

5.Measurement: Mainly measure hardness. Taking glass as an example, except for Xiuyan jade and turquoise, scratches can generally be made on the glass while the jade itself remains intact. Fake jade is generally softer and cannot scratch glass.

6. Smell: If there is no special smell, it is real jade. If there is a sticky smell, it is fake jade. Some high-quality imitation fake jade is made of special jade powder and special glue. Take two jade pieces and rub them against each other and smell the smell.

7. Licking: When you lick real jade with the tip of your tongue, you will feel an astringent sensation, but this will not be the case with fake jade.
