How to identify the authenticity of jadeite

How to identify the authenticity of jadeite

Nowadays, many friends like to collect jadeite themselves. So what issues should they pay attention to in the process of collecting? Regarding the appreciation and collection of jadeite, three words have been summarized, which can be called the "Three-Character Mantra", namely "true", "good" and "value". We should keep the following steps in mind when collecting jadeite.

Step 1: First, make sure it is real jade, not a similar jade or a knockoff;

Step 2: We must make sure that we buy "good jade". So-called good jade means that we cannot buy jade that has been artificially processed or made by chemical means. The value of this kind of jade is very low.

Step 3: After ensuring that the jadeite we collect is authentic and good, what we pursue is its value. Nowadays, many friends are impatient, so they often ignore the two previous parts and only focus on its economic value. If this is the case, you may suffer a loss in your collection. So when it comes to buying real jade, some people may think, is there anyone selling fake jade in the market?

The market value of jade is relatively high now, and jade resources are on the verge of depletion in recent years, so some businesses now counterfeit jade in pursuit of profit. The fake jadeite we usually see in the market can generally be divided into two categories:

The first category: We call it "counterfeit". "Counterfeit" is a finished product made of artificial materials to imitate jade. For example, plastic, glass, and some artificially synthesized jade are used to imitate the current high-end jadeite.

The second category: In addition to counterfeits, there is also a type called "similar jade". The so-called similar jade means that there are many natural jades that are also natural jades. Some of its characteristics are very similar to jadeite. For example, its color may also be green, or its overall luster is also very bright, especially like a certain variety of jadeite. Driven by profit, some merchants also use these jades to imitate jadeite. The value of these jades is much lower than jadeite. If you buy such jadeite, you will suffer a loss.

I will give you some examples of common similar jades. For example, there is a variety that is often used to imitate jadeite in the market. It grows on the same deposit as jadeite. It is colorless and transparent, and looks particularly like the "ice jadeite with better water head" among jadeites. Therefore, this kind of jade is often used to imitate ice jadeite. In particular, there are some blue-colored ones that are used to imitate the blue flowers in jadeite. This kind of jade is called "albite jade" in the professional field, and it is called "water foam" in the market. This kind of jade is a big killer of jadeite. There are many pitfalls in collecting jadeite. As ordinary consumers, I will share with you the following methods to identify jadeite.

Method 1: Weigh the weight;

The density of jade is relatively high, and it feels heavy when you hold it in your hand. For example, when we hold a jade bracelet in our hand, it feels heavy. The density of jade reaches 3.34, while the density of other jade varieties is mostly smaller than this number. Like Xiuyan jade, agate, etc., they feel lighter than jadeite when you weigh them in your hand. We can tell whether this jade is a truly good jadeite by weighing it.

Method 2: Look at the jadeite's greenness;

Jade has the nature of jadeite. The word "jadeite nature" is a relatively important characteristic for us to identify jadeite. It means that when external light shines on jade, there will be a shiny feeling inside the jade. We in the industry call it "fly wings" or "mosquito wings". Its main principle is that it is a phenomenon that occurs when the mineral components of jade reflect external light. Therefore, when we observe the internal structure of jade, we just need to see whether there are fly wings, joints, and what we call jadeite properties. This is also a way to identify jade.

Method 3: Observe the structure of jadeite;

In addition to the above two methods, we can also observe the structure of jade. Friends who often collect jade will know that jade has "bean-like" properties, which is a unique structure of jade. Other jades such as agate, Xiuyan jade, and Hetian jade do not have this bean-like structure inside.

In addition, the most important thing is to look at it more and learn more about the characteristics, feel, and appearance of real jade. Then it will not be difficult to distinguish between real jade and fake jade. After ensuring that a piece of jade is not a counterfeit or a similar jade, we also need to see whether it is good jade and whether it has been artificially processed.

Generally speaking, we divide the jadeite on the market into four types;

The first type (A-grade): The jadeite produced by natural jadeite rough stones through processing, grinding and polishing is called A-grade jadeite.

The second type (B-grade jade): If some merchants get some inferior jade, they will bleach it with sulfuric acid, rinse it, and then inject glue. We call this kind of jade B-grade jade.

The third type (C-grade jade): Jade that has been artificially dyed is called C-grade jade.

The fourth type (B+C goods): After artificial injection and dyeing, we can call it B+C goods

Jadeite such as B+C and B goods has no collection value. Not only does it have no room for appreciation, but it can also cause great harm to the human body.
