The method of detecting whether the jade is genuine or not is actually very simple. You only need a bowl of water.

Today I will share with you a relatively simple and practical method that you can use to quickly detect the authenticity of jade at home. I hope it will help some jade lovers.

First of all, we need to understand a little bit about jade. Jade has a numerical value. The density of A-grade jade is between 3.3-3.7, while B-grade and C-grade jade are acid-washed or dyed. After being corroded by acid, the density will change. Our little trick today is to verify the authenticity of jade through density.

This little trick requires a total of five steps. The whole process takes us about three minutes. Please read it patiently to learn it.

First step

Tie the jadeite with silk thread (to prepare for our next measurement)

Step 2

Put the cup of water on the precise electronic scale and remember to reset it to zero (because we are not going to weigh the cup of water)

Step 3

Put the jadeite into the water cup and record its weight.

Step 4

Lift up the jadeite tied with the silk thread. The height should not exceed the horizontal plane. Do not let the jadeite touch any wall of the water cup. Try to keep the jadeite suspended in the water steadily. Record the weight at this time.

Step 5

After the above 4 steps, we get the weight of the jade placed in water (the third step) and the weight of the jade when it is suspended in water (the fourth step). We use the weight of the jade placed in water ÷ the weight of the jade when it is suspended in water to get the density of the jade we measured.

We all know the result. As I just said, the density of A-grade jade is between 3.3 and 3.7. Take the data we just tested as an example: the weight of jade placed in water = 46.9g, the weight of jade when suspended in water = 14.1g, 46.9÷14.1=3.326. Therefore, we concluded that the density of jadeite we measured is 3.326, which is fully in line with the density standard of A-grade jadeite.
