Although there has been no universally recognized quality evaluation and grading standard for jadeite, high-end jadeite products all have some things in common, that is , good quality, good color, good craftsmanship, and large size... As the saying goes, "one kind, two colors, and three craftsmanship", a high-end jadeite is often inseparable from good quality. When evaluating the quality of jadeite, the type is the most important factor. It can be said that good quality is a prerequisite for high-end jade. For example, the old pit glass type that is pure, flawless and without any streaks, even if it has no color, is also a high-end jade product. On the contrary, no matter how good the color is, if the quality is poor, such as short water head, the value will not be high. For example, Tielongsheng and Ganqing, although they are bright green in color, they become low- and medium-grade jadeite due to their poor quality. 1. What is “species”? "Type" is a quality term unique to jadeite, which is related to its transparency, fineness, and the strength of its translucent and reflective luster . In terms of transparency, generally the higher the transparency, the better the quality of the jade . However, the color intensity and thickness of the jade piece also affect the transparency. The darker the color (deep, dark), the lower the transparency. In terms of fineness, the finer the jade, the better the quality, and vice versa . To explain it in terms of mineralogy and petrology, the type of rock is the structure of the rock. The finer the mineral particles that make up the rock and the more tightly they are combined, the better the type of rock. This structure sometimes appears as a fibrous interwoven structure or a columnar granular structure. Particularly good old pit glass types mostly have a mylonitic structure, which is like glass, with no visible mineral particles. Judging from the strength of the translucent and reflected luster, the better the quality of jade, the stronger the translucent and reflected luster. When light is reflected around the jade piece, a halo is formed, presenting a crystal-clear light that moves with the swing of the jade piece or the change of light, which is commonly known as "luminescence". Easily confused with "qiying" are "qijiao" and "rigidity" . "Gummy" refers to a fine and smooth texture , like solidified colloid, with no visible mineral crystal particles. This means that the crystal particles inside the jade are very small and arranged in disorder. "Rigidity" refers to the fact that the jade piece reflects strong light , giving a sense of sharpness and firmness, just like the light reflected by metal. Rigidity is the visual manifestation of a material's tight structure, high toughness, high hardness, and strong light reflection. In the industry, jadeite with "luster" and "glue" is called good quality, and jadeite with "rigidity" is called old quality or old pit. The so-called "old pit quality" refers to jadeite of particularly good quality. 2. What are the advantages of growing good quality jade? First, jadeite of good quality is more durable. It has a fine texture, tight structure, slightly higher toughness, hardness and specific gravity, and is not easy to mutate. Second, jadeite of good quality looks more beautiful visually. Good quality jade has strong luster and high transparency. If it reaches ice quality or above, it can show optical phenomena such as "luster", "glue" and "rigidity". Just like the fire in a gem, it is the aura of jade. The more obvious and vivid the aura is, the more beautiful and charming the jade will be. Third, good quality jade is scarce, and rare things are valuable. The vast majority of jadeite has coarse grains, and its cleavage surfaces can be seen with the naked eye. This is called "jadeite quality" and is a characteristic of jadeite. However, it cannot be seen in jadeite of good quality, especially ice quality or above. Good quality jade is very scarce. In every Myanmar jade rough stone public auction, there are about 10,000 pieces of rough stones, and less than 100 of them are ice-type or above, which is about 1%. From this we can see that good quality jade has the three characteristics of durability, beauty and rarity . Why shouldn’t it be expensive? 3. How to judge the quality of seeds One of the tips for buying jade is to first learn to look at the "type", and this skill mainly comes from the accumulation of experience. In the industry, people in the industry have long divided jade into different categories based on its quality and water performance, such as the four most familiar grades of bean type, glutinous type, ice type, and glass type (from low to high) , as well as taro type, hibiscus type, white base green, etc.
