In addition to mastering the necessary carving techniques, jade carving also requires understanding the characteristics of jade and the features of jade materials. Only by selecting materials, creating, and carving based on these characteristics can one have a chance to produce good works!

Some jadeite raw stones, such as the materials from Damakan, generally have charming surface color - a layer of bright yellow fog. But don’t think that the quality of the meat inside the material is the same as that on the surface. In many cases, the quality of the meat wrapped in the yellow fog layer will be relatively inferior. Therefore, when we encounter such materials, it is generally not recommended to make large cuts to obtain pieces. If the material is small, keep the overall intact carving. If the material is relatively large, it is recommended to select the position with the best color for color design.

This is jadeite sent to me by a jade friend for carving. There is a layer of bright yellow fog on the surface of the material, but when looking at it under light, it can be found that the yellow fog layer is not thick, only a thin layer, so the idea of carving this material is to keep the yellow skin as much as possible.

The jade material is relatively large, and the jade lover intended to carve a plaque. After examining the entire jade material, he selected the part with richer color and made a plaque.

The upper part of the jade material is rich in yellow fog and bright in color, while the lower part, the white jade part, is old and watery, clean and delicate. A jade lover wanted to make a Buddha statue, and it was very appropriate to choose the white jade part for carving. According to the shape of the yellow fog, the jade carver decided to color the yellow fog into a coiled dragon. The entire pattern combination implies that the dragon is protecting the master and the Buddha blesses peace.

The plaque is in the shape of a large and thick plaque, so in terms of carving technique, the jade carver chose to use medium relief and combined the idea of round carving on the edge to make the pattern combination three-dimensional and visually full.

The water quality of the material is good, so full gloss treatment is used for polishing, which makes the finished product shiny and moist.

What do you think of this item that symbolizes the protection of a dragon and the blessing of Buddha for peace?
