What is the history of jade?

The Chinese have had a hobby of collecting jade since ancient times. The long history, exquisite craftsmanship, good appearance and uncertain prices make jade more mysterious and charming. Although China is developing rapidly now, the charm of jade cannot be measured by money. Let me give you some information about this.

The earliest jade product in my country was unearthed in Hu County, Shanxi Province, thousands of years ago. It is a small knife made of crystal; the earliest colored stone jade in my country was unearthed from the Hemudu site in Yuyao, Zhejiang, which is 7,000 years old; Lu Zigang was the most famous jade master in the Ming Dynasty; the first academic study of ancient jade in my country was "Ancient Jade Picture Records"; the earliest jadeite in my country was the jade ruyi.

The origin of jade: It is said that it was discovered by a businessman while doing business. Once he went to Myanmar for business. When he came back, the things in one basket were sold out, while the other basket was still full. In order to prevent the basket from falling off the mule's back, he picked up a large stone from the side of the road and put it in the empty basket to keep it balanced. After returning home, the merchant unloaded the goods and threw the stone on the ground. The stone broke into two pieces, revealing the emerald green jade inside. This is jadeite.

The prosperity of jadeite: Nowadays, most of the antique jadeite we can see are generally left over from the Qing Dynasty, because jadeite was valued by people in the Qing Dynasty. Why do I say so? Because Empress Dowager Cixi was obsessed with jadeite at that time, a tribute-payer presented her with a crown made of diamonds, but it did not please Cixi. Another official who presented jade as tribute was praised. From then on, people who presented gifts to the imperial court would choose jadeite as tribute in order to win the favor of Empress Dowager Cixi. This incident was also recorded by Empress Dowager Cixi's trusted eunuch, and various jade ornaments in the mausoleum also prove this fact.

The Age of Jade: Do you know how to tell the age of jade? In fact, this needs to be observed and inferred from several aspects. For example, craftsmanship, jade quality, polishing method, color, etc., which requires an extremely high level of identification.

In ancient times, jade was a symbol of nobility, because only nobles could afford to wear jade, and ordinary people simply could not afford it. Nowadays, most ordinary people can still afford it. I think so many people like it not only because of its beauty, but more because of its long history and culture.
