How did jade come from? Deciphering the origin of jade

Jade has been loved by many people since ancient times because of its great collection value and smooth texture. People not only make jade into ornaments, but also make it into jewelry or hand-held pieces to play with in their hands.

Maybe you have already purchased a piece of jade that you like, but do you know where jade comes from? There are mainly several legends about the origin of jade. I will introduce them to you one by one below.

one

According to legend, in the early 13th century in Yunnan, many merchants expanded their business by selling goods to each other through Myanmar and other border countries and bartering. Among them, a salt merchant brought back a very crystal clear green stone while selling salt products, which surprised many jade lovers in our country. Since then, this green stone has quickly become popular in China.

The reason why this green stone is called jadeite is because there was a bird in Yunnan at that time whose feathers were very colorful. The male bird has bright red feathers and is called the emerald bird, while the female bird has green feathers and is called the kingfisher. The feathers of this bird were also made into ornaments by many skilled craftsmen and were favored by princes and nobles. Because at that time this kind of stone had another color besides green, which was bright red. These two elegant colors were very similar to the color of the jadeite bird, so gradually, this green stone was also called jadeite.

In addition to the beautiful legend of the kingfisher, there is another theory about the origin of jadeite. That was in the early Qing Dynasty. Jadeite was transported from Myanmar to China via the Silk Road. As soon as it arrived in China, it was loved by many jade lovers. But at that time, China mainly produced Hetian jade, and some people called Hetian jade "emerald jade". In order to distinguish this foreign jade from China's Hetian jade, it was called "fei cui". With the passage of time and inheritance, Feicui evolved into jadeite.

In fact, the authenticity of these two statements remains to be verified, but for all readers, it can be regarded as a better understanding of jade knowledge.
