How to identify the authenticity of jade with the naked eye

1. Structure: The structure of jadeite is a metamorphic porphyroblastic interlaced structure, which refers to the structure formed by the interlacing of fine fibrous mineral crystals around transparent granular porphyroblasts under metamorphic action. In jade, there are small clumps of white flowers composed of opaque or slightly transparent white fibrous crystals intertwined together, so they are called "stone flowers" or "stone brains".

2. Type of pit: The type of pit of jade is composed of structure and texture, and jade is composed of small crystals. The smaller the crystal grains, the denser the texture, the better the transparency, and the better the polishing effect. In the jewelry industry, pit types are divided into old pits (also called old types) and new pits (also called new types). The old pits have bright colors, the color and the ground are integrated, the transparency is high, and the quality is the best. The new pit has fresh colors but poor transparency. Old mines and new mines are determined according to the age of the jadeite.

3. Color: The difference in color grade of jade is greatly reflected in its value. When identifying and evaluating jade, one must distinguish its color. It is mainly red, green and purple. The green in monochrome jade and the rich and pure purple and red are all high-grade colors in jade, especially green which is the most expensive. The green color of jadeite should be rich, bright, pretty, correct and harmonious. The best green varieties are emerald green, glass green, bright green and seedling green.

4. Water head: Water head refers to the transparency of jadeite. The higher the water head, the better the seed quality, and the more precious it is. When observing the water head of jadeite, you must be very careful, because the transparency is related to the thickness of the jadeite itself. In addition, you should be especially careful with jade products that have been tampered with, for example, if the middle of the product is hollowed out. Also, be careful of agate substitutes, because agate has better transparency, so some people use agate to color it to imitate jadeite. In Hong Kong and Taiwan, the transparency of jade is divided into levels such as "clear", "transparent", "transparent", "ice", and "ying", among which "ying" is the best quality.

5. Ground: The ground of jadeite should be good. No matter whether it is jadeite or emerald, the texture of the outer part should be fine and uniform, and the texture of the inner part should be solid, fine, clean and full of water. A good ground should also be coordinated with the emerald color and complement each other, so as to bring out the richness of the emerald color. The best jadeite grounds are glass ground and egg white ground.

6. Luster: As a jewellery, jade has very high requirements for its luster. It is a direct reflection of the quality of jade texture and must have a strong glass luster of oil or pearl luster.

7. Feel: Due to the high hardness, dense and delicate structure, good polishing and smoothness of jade, it feels very warm and smooth when you touch it. In addition, jade will feel cool when placed on your face or on the back of your hand.

8. Perfection: Mostly refers to the perfection of jadeite, including the fact that the jadeite has no internal defects, its shape is perfect and intact, and its size is large. Regarding internal defects, we should look at it dialectically. Generally speaking, jadeite without black spots, stone flowers and cracks is better than jadeite with these defects. But sometimes, minor defects, as long as they are not in the conspicuous parts of the finished product, will not affect the value of the jadeite.
