Don't think that all jade is collectible

Although fine jade has become popular in the collection market again in recent years, many jade collectors still have a misunderstanding that all jade has great room for appreciation. In fact, this is not the case. What kind of agarwood has collection value? What is the standard for judging the collection value of agarwood?

Jade is rare, but not all jade is worth collecting. We need to see the variety clearly. A good jade must first meet four conditions:

First of all, it must be naturally formed high-quality jadeite; the value of jadeite depends to a large extent on the quality of the jadeite. The quality of collection-grade jadeite mainly includes glass, ice and glutinous types. Some jadeite with unique colors or large and thick size can be considered worthy of collection even if its texture is poor.

Secondly, the processing technology of jade is exquisite. For a jadeite to be worthy of our collection, it must first have a rare jadeite material, and it must have beautiful color, good quality, and clever color. Among them, the one with both good color and good quality is a rare jadeite. Collection-grade jade requires simple and exquisite craftsmanship. As the saying goes, "big jade does not need to be carved." Jadeite with good color is generally not carved too finely. Collection-level jadeite carvings should be simple and smooth, and not too complicated. If a work is carved too complicatedly, its raw materials are likely to have more stone patterns and impurities, and the complicated carving is to cover up its shortcomings. The intrinsic value of such jadeite works is not high. Another point is that the shape of collection-level jadeite should be full and symmetrical, not too thin or too flat. Left-right asymmetry or overall skewness will affect its beauty.

Again, the better the color of the jade, the higher the saturation, the richer the green, and the more precious it is. Generally speaking, in our collection process, we always say "laymen look at the color, experts look at the type". These two points are about looking at the transparency of jade. The type of jade is also very important. The better the type, the higher the collection value. Even if glass and ice types do not have green color, they are worth collecting.

Finally, look at the price. For enthusiasts who have just entered the jade collection market, if they have a general understanding of the above three factors, they must also learn to distinguish whether it has collection value based on the price. The easiest way to distinguish between collection-grade jade and wear-grade jade is to compare prices. Generally speaking, pendants below 10,000 yuan and bracelets below 50,000 yuan are wearable-grade jade; pendants between 50,000 and 250,000 yuan and bracelets between 100,000 and 400,000 yuan have certain collection value. Among collection-grade jade, jade with good quality is considered fine jade.

In addition to clarifying the collection level and value of jadeite, professionals from the Jicuijia brand believe that there are two more points to note when collecting jadeite:

First, you should be cautious when you are looking for bargains in jadeite collection. When you collect jadeite, don’t be too greedy for cheapness, as there may be traps behind cheap prices. The jadeite you collect must be fine products. You must not leave any regrets. A good thing worth keeping is one that you will like no matter how many times you look at it. Don’t be too impatient and buy it as soon as you see good-looking jadeite. Perhaps when you take it home to admire it, you will find that it is not as good-looking as before. It is also worth noting that when collecting jade, what you want is the rare stuff. At auctions, ordinary jade is piled up in mountains, but the good ones are one in a hundred.

Second, when collecting jadeite, it is better to be of high quality rather than of poor quality. Compared with other collectibles, it is better to collect high-end and top-quality jadeite. In addition to its high appreciation value, its price is also relatively stable and appreciates significantly. If you want to buy and collect jade for the purpose of preserving its value, you must be selective and choose high-quality, rare and high-grade A-grade jade. If you resell or participate in auctions, the market capacity is very weak and it is difficult to appreciate or preserve its value.

Moreover, in an era where counterfeiting and selling inferior goods as high-quality ones are prevalent, collecting jade is not something you can do whenever you come across it. One needs to be particularly cautious when investing in jade collection, and only genuine goods at fair prices are the right thing to do. Therefore, when collecting high-value jadeite, you should pay attention to having a legally binding appraisal certificate issued by a professional appraisal agency. This will provide an extra layer of protection and peace of mind.
