A visual feast! Use a piece of collection-level Qingshui jadeite to carve Guanyin, the finished product is so beautiful that it is breathtaking

“Jade carvings are either of Bodhisattvas or Buddhas. Can’t they be a little more creative?” Whenever I promote jade carvings with Buddhist themes, I receive comments like this one. Why are Buddhist themes so popular in the jade carving industry?

All creation can be described, but the beauty of Buddha is indescribable, yet can be expressed in words.

Guanyin, formerly translated as Guangshiyin and Guanshiyin, abbreviated as Guanyin; modernly translated as Guanshizizai and Guanshizizai. The so-called "Guanyin" observes the sufferings of the world, and cares for them because she cannot bear to see them suffer. And "Avalokitesvara" means to observe one's inner thoughts and ideas, and to cultivate breadth and compassion in the mind.

He has a compassionate heart and is actively involved in the world. He sees all living beings as equals without distinction. He transforms into different forms, preaches different methods, seeks out the suffering, relieves them, and bestows fearlessness in order to save all living beings from their troubles. To the world, Guanyin possesses a serenity that transcends the mundane world and can soothe people’s hearts and cleanse their souls.

In jade carvings, Guanyin carvings often contain the artistic conception of the Bodhisattva saving people, eliminating troubles and ignorance to achieve ultimate liberation. Every detail embodies the creator's thousands of thoughts and spiritual wishes.

Just like this "Statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva", what catches the eye is the solemn appearance of the Avalokitesvara statue, the exquisite details carved with thousands of knives, and the author's ingenious craftsmanship. The solemn and dignified Buddha crown, the half-closed soft eyebrows and eyes, the peaceful and kind expression, the slightly smiling lips, the pious and upright Buddha hands...all the shapes and charm are reflected in the Dharma image.

The artist chose a clean and refreshing clear blue base material and used a graceful and natural sculpting technique to present a statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva with clear and powerful lines and a tranquil and solemn appearance.

The Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara has a relaxed demeanor, a graceful face, lowered eyebrows, closed eyes, and his hands clasped together in a pious manner. At first glance, he looks solemn and dignified yet friendly.

Like the traditional Guanyin, she wears a Buddhist crown on her head, a necklace on her chest, and Buddhist clothes. But the difference is that there is only one necklace accessory on the chest, the clothes on the body are light and simple, the overall lines are straight and powerful, and the lightness and elegance visible to the naked eye make people feel comfortable.

There is also a lotus flower poking out from under the body, which cleverly creates a harmonious whole for the figure while adding a touch of artistic beauty.

In addition, it is interesting to note that the work uses the classic "80/20" rule to open the eyes. The so-called 28 rule for Guanyin carving states that the eyes of the jade Guanyin should be in a state of “half open and eighty percent closed”, almost half closed. Most people regard this state as the charm and essence of Guanyin jade carving. If the eyes are not well portrayed, it cannot be considered a good Guanyin jade carving.

Guanyin under the "28" rule has drooping eyebrows and half-closed eyes. This expression is also a true portrayal of Guanyin's calmness and spirit.

Buddhism talks about purifying the six senses of 'eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind', reducing sensory consumption, putting away distracting thoughts, and focusing on cultivating inner peace and wisdom. Guanyin is the representative of great wisdom, so it should be so. Therefore, jade carving artists often use this expression of closing eyes and guarding the mind to represent Guanyin, depicting her meditative state and her pious and calm image.

Therefore, it is reasonable that there are so many Bodhisattva statues in the jade carving industry. Finally, to use Hegel's words, "existence is reasonable", whether it is a Bodhisattva statue or a problem.
