Jadeite needs to go through eight steps from raw stone to finished product. If there is a problem in one step, the loss will be serious.

From raw jade to finished product, jade needs to go through a series of complex processes, including purchase, window opening, peeling, cutting, design, carving, grinding, and polishing, none of which can be missing. However, if inappropriate techniques are used to peel the raw stone, it may cause devastating damage to it. I believe no one would be willing to destroy a hard-earned treasure. How does a piece of stone become a finished jade product? These processes are essential.

How to cut jadeite raw stone?

If the raw stone wants to complete a qualitative transformation and reflect its value, it must go through the process of cutting. The specific method of cutting raw stone is as follows:

1. Examine the material: A piece of stone may look plain, but in fact it often contains unexpected surprises. The initial material review is to find the appropriate cutting point. From the performance of its skin and the lighting effect, you can clearly know which part is better, which part has defects, where there are cracks, and what can be done.

Look at the skin

After the raw stone is nourished by a specific regional environment, there are generally three formation rules:

The first type of raw stone has three distinct layers: skin, fog layer and jade flesh, which are easy to distinguish.

The second type is that there is very little fog layer, and the jade is under the stone skin;

The third type is the raw stone without a fog layer, with no distinction between skin and flesh.

No matter what kind of raw stone it is, from the surface, if the skin of the raw stone is not tight enough and the sand is not hard, the internal structure will be loose. Moreover, cracks and fly wings can be seen from the surface of the raw stone. The larger the fly wings, the coarser the texture.

Look at the water

It is generally recommended that you use a light to observe: the finer the texture, the smaller the particles, and the stronger the fluorescence, the older the species; the higher the transparency, the better the quality; if the light intensity changes when moving across the skin, it means that the material may be mutant or have a lot of cotton.

The quality of the jade is inseparable from the water. If the jade has quality but no water, it is opaque and of low value. If the jade has water but no quality, it cannot shine. The deeper the transmittance and the larger the aperture, the better the water quality and the more valuable the material.

If you cannot see the water quality when shining a light on it, you can use an iron brush to brush the surface of the raw stone to see the water quality. Then you can open a window in the raw stone to determine the quality of the jade and the direction of the cracks inside the raw stone.

After comprehensive review and analysis of the raw stone, a cutting plan is determined to minimize damage to the jadeite during the cutting process and maximize the value of the raw stone.

2. Slicing: Slicing can be done after the cutting plan is determined. Here it refers to the first cut of the jade. If the original stone has cracks, the first cut should be made along the direction of the crack. If you are not sure where to cut, you can first cut a thin slice from the protruding part or extended end of the original stone surface and observe its color, water head and cracks.

After completing the first cut, you need to have a general understanding of the overall situation of the jadeite raw stone and clearly analyze the defects and cracks in order to determine the subsequent cutting plan.

3. Second review: After slicing, the original stone needs to be reviewed for the second time. Here, it is necessary to understand the distribution of green inside the original stone. If it is a color material, the most valuable part is green, so you must consider it carefully when cutting and never destroy the green color. Here we need to distinguish which areas have the worst colors and start from there. In addition, it is recommended to bring a strong flashlight to illuminate the jade. Under the strong light, you can also see the quality of the internal water, as well as the number of defects and cracks.

4. Cutting: After repeating the above steps and comprehensive inspections, you can continue cutting the jadeite raw stone. In this way, a piece of raw stone is completely peeled, and the jadeite in the raw stone is completely presented in front of us.
