Jade Guanyin, Buddha...Experts reveal why jade carvings are always in the same old style?

Jade has a long history in my country, but even in the current jade market, jade jewelry is still mostly in traditional forms such as Guanyin, Buddha, peace buckle, Pixiu, lucky beans, and lucky melons.

However, it is rare to see distinctive and innovative works.

This phenomenon is actually not conducive to the development of the industry. After all, people's aesthetic tastes are becoming more and more diversified, and they need innovative things.

A friend of mine also raised this question to me in the background. He said that he wanted to find some unique subjects but couldn't find any at all.

It is true that there are many jade carvers, but few of them create new and fashionable themes. Why is that?

1. Herd mentality makes more people choose traditional jade

Many times, the value of a work of art is determined by the market, which leads to people following the herd mentality and giving priority to traditional jade when purchasing jade. Even if some designers have achieved innovation, customers may not be able to break free from the constraints of traditional jade.

2. The cost of innovation is too high

Whether it is jade carving or innovative design, it takes time and cost.

To innovate, you need to spend more time to think about materials and come up with clever ideas, which takes more time and energy, resulting in a certain loss of efficiency and reduced income. For many jade carvers and jewelry designers, their income is linked to the sales of their works. Slow processing efficiency will affect the sales of jade and result in certain costs.

3. Most customers are not easily receptive to innovation

For some jade carvers, innovation may not be a problem, but the biggest problem is whether consumers will accept their innovative works.

Although this is an era that advocates personalized aesthetics, it does not mean that consumers will accept your innovative styles. Some consumers will even consider the value preservation and popularity of innovative works.

Compared with traditional jade jewelry, they feel that traditional jade jewelry has better value preservation and collection space.

Therefore, if jadeite wants to innovate, someone must pay for it, otherwise the jade carver or designer will have to take certain risks when making the innovation.

4. The existence of plagiarism problem.

Plagiarism will hinder the development of innovation. Plagiarism is a problem that all walks of life will encounter. Plagiarism and following trends also exist in the jade industry.

For example, in recent years, there have been jade works with the theme of enlightenment. Because of the rise of a theme, everyone has been copying this type of theme. This practice will put innovation into a dilemma.

5. The consumer group is too single

The number of people who like innovative jade works is relatively small.

In the jade market, traditional jade ornaments such as Jade Guanyin, Buddha, and Pixiu are the mainstream sales, and most consumers will choose such styles.

Innovative jade works are more popular among people with strong individuality, especially young people, which results in the audience of innovative jade jewelry being relatively small and single.
