How to better judge the value of a piece of jade?

Many jade lovers who are interested in collecting jadeite find it difficult to get the hang of it and are deterred from buying it, thus missing out on an excellent investment channel. However, jadeite collection is not something that is off limits to everyone. As long as you master some tips and tricks, you can also play around in the jadeite collection market. Here are three tips to help you identify the value of jadeite.

First move

Is the price high?

For beginners in jade, the easiest way to distinguish between collection-grade jade and wearable-grade jade is to look at the price.

Pendants below 20,000 yuan and bracelets below 50,000 yuan are all wear-grade jadeite; pendants between 50,000 and 250,000 yuan and bracelets between 100,000 and 400,000 yuan have a certain collection value, and you may be able to pick out high-quality jadeite; while higher-priced jadeite jewelry is generally selected and purchased by collectors, and ordinary jade lovers should be cautious in their investments.

The second approach

Is the material good?

The value of jade is largely determined by its material, and its quality and shape further limit its collection value. To reach the collection level, jadeite must be of at least ice type. Glass, ice and glutinous ice types are the jadeite varieties favored by most jade lovers. However, some jadeite has unique colors or extremely large and thick sizes, and slightly poorer texture is also worth collecting. In addition, the shape of a good jadeite should be full and symmetrical. It is not good if it is too thin or too flat, asymmetrical or skewed as a whole.

The third move

Whether the craftsmanship is refined

Good jade requires simple yet refined craftsmanship. Even the best jade needs excellent craftsmanship and fine workmanship to enhance its value. As the saying goes, "big jade does not need to be carved." Jadeite with good quality and color is rarely carved too finely. The carving of high-quality jadeite should be simple and smooth. If the carving is too complicated, there may be too many stone patterns and impurities, and the appreciation potential will be relatively limited.
