Jade antique, every line is a trace of history

Jade antique, every line is a trace of history

Antique, these two simple words, when read lightly, seem to carry infinite ancient charm, spreading through the long corridor of time. It is a line, a pattern, a auspicious beast, a herb, and more importantly, a trace left by history for future generations to repeatedly engrave and remember.

The birth of every kind of art is the crystallization of human wisdom. The same is true for imitation of antiques. It is the product of our ancestors' observation, learning, and creation from nature and daily life. Therefore, you can see the outline of Ganoderma lucidum, the shape of waves, the appearance of flowing clouds, the mighty Taotie, the bravery of Chilong and many other images in the imitation of antiques.

The reason why imitation of antiques is a trace of history is that it is constantly enriched in every dynasty and every period:

Double-line outline of the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties.

Intaglio lines from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period.

Jade dragon pattern from the Five Dynasties period.

Cloud patterns, chihu patterns, dragon patterns, etc. from the Han Dynasty.

The patterns of jade carvings in the Ming Dynasty are mainly based on folk customs and story-telling content, and patterns such as longevity, ten thousand, happiness, sea waves, flowing clouds, and volute patterns are popular as background patterns or border decorations.

The patterns in the Qing Dynasty became more refined and complex, integrating the best of all periods. They not only imitated the jade wares of previous dynasties, but also had many innovations.

Decoration is the essence of antique jade and also a relatively important depiction technique. Some are meticulously carved, some are plain, and some are complicated. Each decoration has a specific meaning.

Every jade carver has different preferences when it comes to the use of antique patterns. Faced with different jades, they give different themes, patterns and lines. The works they create are also ever-changing, with beautiful lines.

Nowadays, jade carvers who love antique culture are innovating on the basis of inheriting tradition, so that their works have the charm of ancient jade and cater to the aesthetic needs of modern people, and are favored by many collectors.

Carving simple patterns on jade can not only preserve the original beauty of the material to the greatest extent, but also give the jade rich symbolic meaning and profound classical connotations. Every line is worth careful appreciation.
