How is jade formed? Four major viewpoints on the formation of jadeite

Currently on the market, many people like to wear jade jewelry, such as jade bracelets, jade pendants, jade rings and so on. These jade ornaments not only have beautiful and perfect appearance, but also have very high value among many ornaments, such as collection value and cultural value.

However, among the many jade ornaments, jadeite jewelry stands out, but few people know how this precious jadeite was formed. On the contrary, the exquisite and beautiful jade jewelry we usually see on display counters in jewelry stores have all undergone a series of processing.

In fact, the formation of natural jade is a magical and arduous process. From the perspective of petrology, the so-called jade is mainly a dense block aggregate formed by the interweaving of countless tiny fibrous mineral microcrystals, mainly jadeite. However, in the process of jadeite's formation after more than 60 million years of evolution, there are four main views in the industry on the formation of natural jadeite:

1. It is believed to be the desiliconization product of residual granite magma that intrudes into ultramafic rocks under high pressure conditions.

2. It is believed that it was formed when primary albite decomposed into jadeite during regional metamorphism; or it is believed that under the compressive and torsional stress and low temperature generated by plate collision, albite first formed blueschist schist with a lower degree of metamorphism, and then further metamorphosed into jadeite.

3. It is believed that granite veins and light-colored gabbro veins were formed by replacement under the action of hot water solutions with high chemical potential of sodium at a pressure of 12~14kPa.

4. Based on the discovery of three-phase inclusions of water, methane and jadeite in jadeite rock, it is believed that jadeite is crystallized from a near-jadeite silicate melt, and that this melt originates from the widely existing alkaline pyroxene layer in the mantle at 300~400km.

After reading this, I guess the process of jade formation will always make some newbies dizzy, right? In this case, let me tell you about the origin of the name "jade". As for the origin of the name "Jade", there are different opinions among the people, for example:

1. From the name of a bird: In ancient China, jadeite is a bird that lives in the south. It has very beautiful feathers, usually in blue, green, red, brown and other colors. Generally, the male of this bird is red, called "fei", and the female is green, called "cui", collectively known as jadeite. Therefore, there is a saying in the industry that jadeite is male and emerald is female. Especially during the Ming Dynasty, after Burmese jade was introduced to China, it was named "jadeite".

2. In ancient times, "Cui" specifically referred to the green jade produced in Hotan, Xinjiang. After jadeite was introduced to China, in order to distinguish it from the green jade from Hotan, it was called "fei cui", and later gradually evolved into "jadeite".
