In recent years, as the price of jade has continued to rise, more and more people have begun to like jade; coupled with the improvement of people's living standards, more and more people have begun to play with jade. Many unscrupulous merchants began to make moves, causing the jade market to be a mixed bag, with good and bad products mixed together, causing many people to be afraid of jade. In fact, the jade market is not that scary, but if you see this kind of pattern on jade when you buy it, leave quickly!

Why do these patterns appear? It turns out that after the jadeite has been artificially etched with strong acid and injected with glue, the boundaries and tiny cracks of the jadeite mineral grains that make up the jadeite are gradually opened due to the corrosive effect of the strong acid, and it slowly becomes loose, taking on a network-like appearance.

"Acid etching marks" are characteristics that appear after jade is corroded by strong acid, so they only appear in B-grade and B+C-grade jade.

Of course, if the A-grade jadeite is not polished well, some pits and lines will be left on the surface, which are very similar to the "acid etching marks" and are often mistaken for the "acid etching marks" of B-grade jadeite and B+C-grade jadeite. In such a case, it is necessary to combine other characteristics such as gloss, transparency, and flocculent structure to identify it. (However, this type of A-grade jadeite, which is prone to acid-etching marks, has a rough texture and is better not to be bought!) It is recommended that when you buy jadeite, you should bring a knowledgeable friend to go with you, or ask the merchant for an authoritative appraisal certificate.

"Cellulite" and "Acid Etching"

Note: Many people tend to confuse "orange peel lines" with "acid etch lines". Here, Consultant Zhao uses pictures to distinguish them for you:

"Orange peel texture" refers to the uneven appearance of the bonding between different cleavage planes of different jadeite particles. Generally, orange peel texture can only be seen on jadeite with a relatively coarse texture under reflective conditions. It is generally difficult to see orange peel texture on jadeite with a fine texture such as glass or ice.

The characteristics of "orange peel" and "acid etching" are different:

A-grade jadeite will only have "orange peel texture" and no "acid etching texture". Therefore, the "orange peel texture" of polished A-grade jadeite is just a smooth and round pattern with small bumps and small depressions.

What gaps and cracks.

The "orange peel texture" of B-grade and B+C-grade jadeite is not obvious or invisible (some counterfeiting techniques are very advanced), but the characteristics of the "acid etching texture" can be seen. As counterfeiting technology improves, the "acid etching texture" is becoming more and more difficult to detect, and generally requires viewing under light with the aid of instruments, such as a magnifying glass.
