Jadeite identification certificate says it is A-grade, but it is not necessarily natural A-grade. Be careful of these notes

Many jade lovers have this habit. They must get an appraisal certificate when buying jade. On the one hand, it can provide security for their purchase transaction, and on the other hand, it can also prove the quality of their goods when reselling them. But do you really understand what each column of numbers on the certificate proves?

Today, I will show you how to get to know the Jade Identification Certificate:

1. The most common place for certificates to hide tricks: notes

After getting the certificate, most people only focus on whether the identification result is A-grade, and ignore other places. In fact, in addition to the identification result, there is another place that is also worthy of our attention, that is, the remarks. We often receive inquiries from jade friends about the remarks in the background. Regarding the remarks column, these questions are more common:

1. Note: The sample contains polishing powder

Finished jade products have to go through processes such as polishing and waxing. Polishing powder is a material used in these processes. It can polish the surface of jade smooth and flat, making the jade look more transparent and beautiful. It is a normal processing method.

However, the "Sample contains polishing powder" in the certificate's remarks column is not a normal process. Some unscrupulous merchants make a fuss about the polishing process in order to sell lighter-colored jadeite at a high price.

They dye the polishing powder with a dye and then polish it. They then skip the cleaning step and seal the dyed polishing powder directly with wax. This will not affect the issuance of the A-grade jade certificate, but will also make the jade with originally poor color look more beautiful, thereby selling it at a high price. This method is very deceptive, but it can be avoided if you carefully check the notes on the certificate.

2. Note: The cause of color is uncertain

Such remarks often appear on the appraisal certificate of red jadeite. What this sentence actually means is that this piece of red jadeite has undergone heat treatment.

The so-called heat treatment is to use heating method to turn the yellowish-brown or dull red jadeite into bright red. Such treatment is an acceptable optimization treatment method in the jadeite industry and does not affect their issuance of certificates for natural red jadeite.

However, the heat-treated red jadeite is obviously drier than natural red jadeite. If you like natural red jadeite, you must pay attention to whether there is this line of words in the remarks column.

3. Note: Contains other mineral ingredients

Although jade is a composite mineral containing multiple minerals, if this sentence is marked in the notes column of the certificate, it means that this piece of jade contains more impurities. Although it still belongs to the category of natural jade, its value is naturally much lower than jade with fewer impurities. Be careful when buying jade.

2. What do these items on the certificate mean?

After talking about the remarks column that everyone is most concerned about, let's take a look at the following contents that usually appear in a certificate:

【front】:

1. Shape and color: The shape and color of the jade carving are the most intuitive in front of you;

2. Total mass: the weight of the jadeite;

3. Density, optical properties, refractive index, absorption spectrum, magnification inspection: These items are the physical characteristics of jadeite. The data of these items are the same for all natural jadeite. The authenticity of jadeite is also determined by the data of these items when institutions detect it.

4. Testing basis: the testing standards used by the testing agency;

5. Chief inspector and approval: The signature of the inspector must be 2 or more signatures to be valid;

6. Seal: The seal of the testing organization can be clearly seen on the front of the certificate. A real and valid certificate will have a seal;

7. Number: There will be a line of certificate number on the certificate, which is an important proof for checking the authenticity of the certificate. A certificate without a certificate number is not credible.

Observation points: Pay attention to whether the shape and color of the jadeite sold by the merchant match those on the certificate. You can also weigh the weight to ensure that the certificate is not counterfeited from other jadeite.

【back】:

1. Logo: You will see several logos at the top of the back: CMA, CAL, CNAS. Some certificates have all three logos, while others have only one. The CMA logo is required. If there is no logo or no CMA, then the certificate is not authentic.

2. Institution: The back of the certificate usually has the institution that issued the certificate, as well as detailed information such as address, website, contact information, etc. You can check to confirm whether this institution is qualified to issue the certificate. If not, the authenticity of the certificate cannot be trusted.

3. How to identify the authenticity of jadeite certificates

1. Look: Check whether there are any missing items on the certificate (steel stamp, signature of the appraiser, CMA logo on the back, etc.). If important items are missing, your jade identification certificate will not be credible;

2. Identification: Check whether there are any contradictions in the items on the certificate. For example, if it is a mosaic jadeite, the density column should show words such as "not measured because of inlay" instead of a specific density value.
