The jadeite raw stone bought at the night market is worth thousands of dollars in carving fees. Can the work be completed as desired?

As the saying goes: Jade cannot be made into a useful object without being carved. This is also an important factor for jadeite. What I’m going to share with you today are jade carvings, but we have to start with the original stone. The jadeite rough stone below is from the Damakan field in Myanmar. The jade has good texture, rich yellow jade, and the texture is slightly translucent under the light, making it very suitable for carving.

The owner bought this piece of jade at a night market and planned to give it to a master to help carve it. From the perspective of shape, it is a great test of the sculptor's creative inspiration and carving skills. This is also a challenge for the sculptor. Let's get straight to the point and see how carving can maximize its value.

According to the characteristics of each piece of jade, the design is determined, shaped, carved, and painted repeatedly, step by step, making good use of the characteristics of the raw materials and utilizing the method of previous clever carving to allow the semi-finished product of jade to "come out of the shell". Therefore, if you want to consider making good works, you need to measure it with skill and time. This took the sculptor a week to carve. You can see that the carving is very delicate, but it has not been polished yet.

For a piece of jade work, every link is closely linked to each other, and if any step goes wrong in the production process, it will be a pity and affect the final quality. It is like jadeite of good quality is a student who graduated from a prestigious university, and everyone will fight for it as soon as he or she graduates; while jadeite of poor quality is like a student who dropped out of school before graduation, and one needs to wait for the opportunity. That's what I mean.

Let's take a look at the polishing effect. The subject of the carving by the master is Guanyin Bodhisattva. The effect is very good. The gloss treatment is very detailed, the protruding parts are treated with bright light, and the carving is very delicate. It can be said that the sculptor’s use of the raw materials has basically reached perfection, adding a lot of points to the entire work.

This piece of jade was intended to be carved into an ornament, so the master specially made a base for it so that it would look beautiful. The carving of this ornament can cost up to a thousand yuan. In fact, the value of some jades is not very high, but after being polished by craftsmen, they become more valuable. This is the charm of carving a work.

<<:  Many people complained that the jadeite raw stones their friends bought were waste, but they were slapped in the face when the finished product came out!

>>:  The 42-armed Thousand-armed Guanyin jade ornament is worth US$ 600 million. The carving process is so spectacular!
