Why are there such big differences between the war drums carved from violet jadeite?

Why are there such big differences between the war drums carved from violet jadeite?

Violet is a very distinctive color variety of jade.

First, the water quality of violet jade is generally very tender. There is a saying in the industry that "nine out of ten are spring jades." This means that due to the average water quality of violet jade, it can appear stunning purple under light, but appears pale white under natural light. Also, don’t look at violets under yellow light, because the color of violets under yellow light appears very purple, and it is easy to misjudge its true color.

Therefore, violet is a kind of jade that can be made into egg-shaped surfaces with glutinous species. Violet jade of ice species and above is extremely rare. The higher the grade of violet, the higher the value. The highest grade is even imperial purple, which is as famous as imperial green.

Secondly, the color concentration of violet jadeite often does not match its water grade. Usually, violet jadeite with good water grade is very light in color, while violet jadeite with rich color is not of high water grade. Therefore, a violet jadeite with water grade reaching ice grade or even glass grade and with very positive color is extremely rare in the market and is very valuable.

Therefore, the jade carvings created by Violet often present two forms: one is small in size but with excellent water quality and color. Their materials are not enough to carve a grand work, so the design and carving often develop in a refined direction, winning by the intricacy of details and exquisite shape.

Secondly, the volume is large, but the water quality is average, so it is impossible to do fine cleaning of impurities and cotton. It is necessary to use a broad approach and use a grand composition to embellish the work to show the dynamic and magnificent side. Although it lacks delicacy, it gives the work a boldness.
