How to distinguish between Ganqing and Tielongsheng in jadeite?

Today let’s talk about Tielongsheng, a brother in distress among full green jadeite. We all know that green is the most expensive color in jadeite, and full green can cost tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even tens of millions. However, due to the existence of these two brothers, their strength has lowered the price range of the entire full green jadeite. Most of the hundreds or thousands of jadeite we usually see in the market are these two brothers. So what is the difference between these two brothers?

First of all, Tielongsheng is a transliteration from Myanmar. In Burmese, Tielongsheng means full green. There is a jade expert in Hong Kong, my country, who translated it as Tianlongsheng. The meaning of Tianlongsheng sounds more noble and lovely, so Tielongsheng is also called Tianlongsheng in some areas. Tielongsheng and Ganqing look extremely similar in appearance, but there are differences in essence. We all know that the main component of jade is jadeite.

When jadeite contains chromium ions, it will appear green. As the content of chromium ions increases, the originally warm and translucent jade will become greener, but its water quality will become worse. When the concentration of chromium ions reaches a certain level, it will evolve into Tielongsheng jade. The main component of Tielongsheng jade is still jadeite, so Tielongsheng still belongs to the category of traditional jade.

Its basic physical properties are the same as those of jadeite, but when the chromium ion content continues to increase, it becomes sodium chrome pyroxene, also known as Ganqing. It is not within the range of traditional jadeite, that is, the main component of Ganqing is sodium chrome pyroxene, and the component of Tielongsheng jade is mainly jadeite or chromium-containing jadeite, so it is still traditional jadeite. From the naked eye, the crystal grains on the surface of Ganqing are relatively large, with poor transparency, rough and dry texture, and there will be a relatively dry sound when knocking on the raw stone.

The surface color of Tielongsheng jade is bright green, or dark green, or a range between dark green and black. Its texture is relatively delicate, and it has a certain water head. Most Tielongsheng exists in the form of thin flakes, but it is different from Ganqing. Ganqing has no light and transparency, but Tielongsheng has a certain light and transparency, and looks shiny.
