Share the carving process of "Three-color Buddha"

Jade must be crafted, the craftsmanship must have meaning, and the meaning must be auspicious! Some jade materials have very good color distribution, but cracks separate the colors, so if you take a small piece, the color characteristics will be lost. How should you carve it? Today I will share the carving process of "Tri-Color Buddha" to see how the jade carver skillfully carves such jade materials.

A piece of jadeite with several large cracks, glutinous jade, with impurities and a lot of white cotton, the base color is slightly gray, the highlight is the color is tri-color, clear green and rich yellow. If such jade material is cut into perfect small pieces, the three colors will be separated and the value of the small pieces will not be high, so we can only find ways to avoid cracks in the carving.

The jade carver analyzed the distribution of colors. Green bands were distributed layer by layer on the jade material, the yellow was mainly concentrated in the lower right part of the jade material, and the jade in the lower left part was relatively clean. Based on his experience, the jade carver composed the design of this "Tri-Color Buddha": layers of green are designed to represent lush leaves, yellow jade is designed to represent tree trunks, and the Buddha is designed to be meditating in the clean part of the lower left corner of the jade; the cracks under the jade are carved to represent a stream flowing out from the rocks in the woods.

The base of the jade material is gray and has heavy cotton wool. Jade carvers use heavy relief to shape the material, removing as much cotton wool as possible from the jade while retaining more emerald green to form branches and leaves; heavy relief makes the jade material thinner, reducing the grayness of the base color, making the green more positive and the yellow more correct.

The rough embryo produced by heavy relief carving will have very three-dimensional images of trees, rocks, etc., which makes it easier to avoid cracks in the jade material. Jade carvers skillfully use leaves, tree trunks, stone crevices, etc. to avoid cracks, making the cracks, colors and patterns seamlessly integrated. The resulting works have a reasonable and natural visual effect, and it is difficult to detect flaws with the naked eye.

At the bottom of the jade material, the jade carver outlined a stream along the cracks, and designed a flat rock on the relatively perfect and clean area on the left. On the rock, the Buddha is sitting in meditation, contemplating the Buddhist scriptures. Judging from the rough work, the jade carver not only uses the color of the jade material beautifully, but also is very skillful in avoiding cracks and fissures.

After meticulously crafted works, the jade is no longer a piece of hard stone covered with cracks and with a dull gray background, but a painting full of tranquility and Zen, with lush forests, flowing streams, and Buddha meditating.

The carving on the back is integrated with the front, and the pattern has a natural transition. The crisp green becomes a lush forest, the yellow jade becomes steep and rugged rocks, and a stream at the bottom flows along the path to the foreground, exuding a quiet and serene Zen feeling.

Jade carving creation is to find the highlights of the jade, remove the flaws of the jade, adjust the color, and give the jade beautiful meaning!
