What are the characteristics of A-grade jadeite? How to identify A-grade jadeite?

In the jade market, we often hear some people say that when buying jade, you must buy A-grade jade, and only A-grade jade is valuable. And in fact this is true. In the industry, only A-grade jade is regarded as real jade, while other types of jade are usually called fake jade. But many people who are new to the jade industry are usually not clear about what A-grade jade means and what kind of jade it refers to. Next, let me introduce to you the characteristics of A-grade jadeite.

The so-called A-grade jade does not refer to the jade of the best quality. It only refers to jade that is pure natural and has not undergone chemical treatment. Some jadeite, because its quality does not meet the gem grade standards when it is unearthed, needs to be chemically treated. In the industry, jadeite that has undergone acid washing and bleaching is called B-grade jadeite, jadeite that has undergone dyeing is called C-grade jadeite, and jadeite that has undergone both acid washing and dyeing is called B+C grade jadeite. In addition, there is also the term "D-grade jadeite" on the market, but in fact, D-grade jadeite is not jadeite at all. It is counterfeited with other minerals that are very similar to jadeite but cost much less than jadeite.

So, how do we identify A-grade jadeite? This requires understanding the characteristics of A-grade jade and how it differs from other types of jade. First of all, from a structural point of view, the texture of A-grade jade is naturally distributed, and there are usually tiny inclusions inside. As for B-grade jadeite, because it has undergone acid washing, its structure will be damaged by chemicals, and usually acid etching marks and even cracks will appear on the surface. In order to fill the cracks, it is often filled with glue and injected with glue, so we can see residual glue on the jadeite. In addition, natural A-grade jade has its internal moisture preserved, usually appearing translucent and lustrous. Jade that has undergone acid washes will lose its internal moisture and appear dry.

In terms of color, the color distribution of A-grade jadeite shows a natural uneven state, often producing floating color bands, and most importantly, these colors will sink to the bottom of the jadeite. However, the original color of jadeite that has undergone acid washing will be damaged. For C-grade jadeite that has been dyed, the color floats on the surface of the jadeite, and the color distribution is extremely unnatural and unharmonious, producing obvious color blocks and spots.
