A comprehensive analysis of the difference between water jade and jadeite

Hello friends!

Today I will introduce to you the modified glass materials.

What do you think of this rough stone? Do you think it must be very expensive? It is rare to see it?

An expert can tell the weirdness of this rough stone at a glance. Unfortunately, it is just a piece of water foam and cannot be compared with jade in value.

For those who don't know much about water-foam jade, they often confuse it with glass-type jadeite. Then the following article will tell you everything about water-foam jade.

The definition of water jade:

Shuimozi, also known as Shuimoyu, is produced in Myanmar. It is a companion mineral of jadeite. Its main component is albite, followed by a small amount of pyroxene minerals and amphibole minerals. It does not show emerald green when observed with a magnifying glass. It contains more stone flowers or white cotton. Its transparency and water head are very good. It got its name from the accurate description of its external characteristics. It is like the water in a small ditch falling from high to low, stirring up the foam on the surface of the water. Its appearance is very similar to ice jadeite or jadeite with blue flowers. However, there are still some Shuimozi and jadeite. If you look closely, you will find that the tightness and glossiness of the loose texture are not as good as those of regular jadeite.

The difference between water foam and jadeite

1. Shuimozi does not have the natural jadeite quality, and it has many hidden cracks and more white cotton.

2. The specific gravity of water foam is 2.57-2.64, while the specific gravity of jade is 3.25-3.43. Weigh it by hand. Jade will be obviously heavier.

3. The refractive index of water foam is 1.52-1.154, and the refractive index of jade is 1.65-1.66, which is much smaller than that of jade.

4. The luster of water foam is relatively weak. This is due to the low refractive index.

5. Look at the characteristics of the water foam. Bubble strings. But they are not the big bubbles you imagine. They are usually very small. They are parallel strings of small bubbles. They look like crystal lines at first glance. Under a magnifying glass, you will find that they are small bubble strings. However, the small bubble strings may be filled with impurities and become small floating flowers.

6. Although water jade is also transparent, it is not as transparent, round and delicate as glass or ice jade.

7. There are usually some irregular white spots in the middle of the jadeite, but they are rarely seen in glass and ice jadeite.

In these two pictures, can you tell which is water jade and which is jadeite?

Press the light below to see

The water-foam jade is transparent under the pressure light, but experts can see from the pressure light that the water-foam jade has the visual effect of light absorption and scattering, and the jadeite will produce fluorescence or strong light reaction due to the difference in refractive index. There have been many examples of water-foam jade being used as glass species on the market.
