Several grams of material can be used to grind out a few grams of ring face! But it made a lot of money

The most successful and noblest plain works in jadeite, bracelets, necklaces and ring faces are well-deserved to be called the “Three Musketeers”! Compared to bracelets and necklaces, ring faces have the highest requirements and also require the most materials.

Jadeite raw stones are first considered for bracelets, followed by necklaces, ring faces, and carvings. Among them, ring faces have the highest requirements. Many times, a piece of raw stone can only produce a few high-quality ring faces.

Today we will use the following case to explain how the ring face is obtained?

Why are there only a few ring faces produced from a piece of material weighing several kilograms? What's the difficulty?

1. Strict requirements for the ring face

Although the ring face is small in size, it has the highest requirements for raw materials. The ring face is generally solid color, and the color cannot have black spots, white cotton, cracks, etc. The requirements for the quality and water are also very high. Only when these requirements are met to a certain degree can a valuable ring face be polished.

2. Single material selection and waste of materials

After removing dirt and cracks from the large piece of material, cut it into small irregular pieces, and then take out the single-color parts from the small pieces to meet the requirements of the ring face. This process is very wasteful of material, and generally speaking, it is not recommended to use this material to make ring faces. Firstly, it wastes the material; secondly, it fails to meet the ideal requirements and value of ring faces.

3. Grinding is time-consuming and labor-intensive

After the material is taken out, grinding, rounding and polishing are the most critical and also test the master's skills the most. In terms of craftsmanship, the outline of the ring face should be smooth and graceful, symmetrical up and down and left and right, and the length-to-width ratio should reach a certain proportion to achieve the most harmonious visual effect.

The final product has a beautifully transitioned arc, and the best specification is a double convex specification (both the front and the back are convex), which is commonly known as "loach back" in the industry. The purpose of doing this is to allow the material with good water quality to achieve a fluorescent effect through internal reflection of light, so that the ring face will look full of spirituality.

Therefore, it is not difficult to understand that a piece of material weighing several kilograms can produce several ring faces weighing several grams.

So, how do you choose a ring face?

1. Color

No matter what color it is, choose a bright one, not dark or off-color. The color of the ring face should be uniform and not spotted, otherwise it will affect the overall beauty of the ring face.

2. Few flaws

The overall feel of a ring face is higher than that of a carving. When worn on the hand, any slight flaw will be unacceptable, so when purchasing a ring face, you must observe whether there are any flaws.

3. Shape

Shape is the most overlooked, but the most important consideration. When choosing a ring face, you should look for one that is full and round. Such a ring face is not only beautiful and elegant, but also made of thick materials. Ring faces can be divided into double convex and single convex. For ring faces of the same color, size, and water quality, the value of the double convex one is much higher than that of the single convex one.
