Some inlaid jadeite has a sealed back, some is half sealed, and some has no sealed back. What is the reason?

Today's jade inlay has become fashionable with the use of diamonds, colored gems, etc., and is deeply loved by everyone. Today’s jade is no longer just granny green! Today, jade has become an international jewelry.

Some of the inlaid jadeite have a covered back, some are half covered, and some have no covered back (referring to the bottom and back of the inlaid jadeite). In layman's terms, the backing is to completely seal the bottom of the jadeite raw stone with inlays.

The backing is just one step in the deep processing of jadeite. Some people say that its function is to cover up the flaws and imperfections of jade... Let's take a look!

Jade back cover

1. Safety: The K-gold bottom can protect the main jade stone from being damaged.

2. Beautification: Using K gold as the backing can focus the color of the jadeite on the glass ground, making it look more beautiful.

3. Cleanliness: The back cover can keep the bottom clean and not easy to hide dirt. With current technology, through strict testing with an infrared spectrometer, even the back cover can be confirmed to be natural A-grade.

So which jadeite is suitable for back setting?

1. Jadeite with rich colors are usually sealed at the bottom. Because too dark colors will consume light and reduce the water head, it is generally recommended that you seal the bottom only if there is water head.

2. For flat jadeite with rich colors, the bottom must be sealed. Because the color is rich and there is a lack of light to diffuse the color, the only way is to rely on the reflected light from the back cover to diffuse the color.

The secret of the jade back cover:

Although the main reason for covering the bottom is to make the jade more colorful, many of them are also used to cover up the flaws and then pass them off as high-end jade to sell at a higher price. There are also many such cases of various types of treasure hunting.

The inlay must also be genuine, so what situations should we pay attention to?

1. Sheets as thin as a cicada's wing. If you come across a material with extremely rich color but dry and no water, and polish it into thin sheets, it will appear translucent and water-permeable, and it will look watery and full of color, so be careful when you encounter such jade.

2. Light-colored (pale-colored) materials. Seal the yellow base and leave less overhanging. This will make the entire jade appear richer in color and have a more outstanding effect.

3. Materials with dark and uneven color. Seal the white base, pull it a little distance and suspend it in the air. The light will be reflected by the bottom surface, and the material will look bright but not too dark, and more uniform.

The back cover can be divided into three types: lid (open window), sealed and mesh sealed:

1. There is a small lid on the bottom cover that can be opened. This form is very common. Opening the small lid can be used to identify the texture of jadeite.

2. Sealed means completely surrounded and sealed, and cannot be opened without being seen.

3. The net seal is a hollow full seal. The latter two types usually cannot be opened without the help of professional tools.

When we buy jadeite with a sealed bottom, we recommend buying those with a window bottom. When buying, open the small cover at the back to see the main stone, its type, water content, color, whether there are any flaws, etc. If it is a sealed bottom, look carefully at the surface.
