How to judge the value of jadeite?

Check the texture

The texture of natural jade is transparent or translucent, and the surface is moist and shiny. Close inspection reveals a slightly transparent "salt grain" with fibrous material surrounding it in a rounded shape.

Check the hardness.

Natural jade is jade with a Mohs hardness of 7 degrees. Use a sharp tool to score without leaving any marks. Fake jade has a low hardness and can be scratched by a sharp knife.

Check out the emerald color.

When observing natural jade under strong light, you can see that there are other mineral particles in the jade color. Fakes made of glass, plastic and porcelain do not have this "jade" feature.

Check relative density (specific gravity).

The structure of natural jade is hard and dense, without bubbles, high density, and makes a crisp sound when knocked. The fake ones have loose structure or bubbles, low density, and a hoarse but not crisp sound when knocked.

Check the color.

Real jade has rich and pure color. Some counterfeit products are made of white jade, serpentine, Australian jade, Korean jade, marble or even miscellaneous stones. After decolorization, it is filled with high-hardness plastic slurry and color treated, or immersed in green liquid to make the so-called real jadeite. When observed under strong light, you can see that the green lines are messy and thin; some of them do not show lines, but they are turbid and unclear, with poor luster, and are lighter in weight than real jade.
