Cracked jade is not a big deal. As long as the design is good and the carving is done well, it can still be a fine product.

Whether it is jadeite rough stone or slice material, cracks are an unavoidable defect.

We all want to get jade that has good quality, color, and is perfect without cracks, but the reality is often disappointing. When you open a slightly larger raw stone, cracks will appear without a doubt; when you go to the open material market to pick out materials, you will find that most of the materials on the market are cracked!

However, cracks are not a big deal. As long as the design is good and the carving is done well, a fine product can still be produced. Just like the process of this work that I am going to share today, when you see the finished product, can you imagine that it had many cracks in its original state?

The outer skin of this jadeite raw stone has been sanded off, and the quality of the inner layer is clearly visible. The water quality is good, and it has a base color. Although there are cracks, there are relatively few through-cracks, and many of them can be avoided through carving.

After removing the outer skin, digging out unnecessary waste and doing a simple shaping, you can see that the bottom of the jade is icy and delicate, the water quality is good, the base color is refreshing and thorough, and the transition between light and dark is natural.

After carefully analyzing the direction of the jade cracks and combining the shape of the jade material, the direction of the water head and other characteristics, the jade carver chose to make a small ornament with the theme of Guanyin. The upper part of the jade has few and shallow cracks, which is the water head position and the main body of the Guanyin image is designed; the lower part has many cracks and a darker base color, and is decorated with patterns such as water ripples, boys and lotus pods to avoid cracks and enrich the subject matter.

In terms of carving techniques, jade carving masters use a combination of high relief and round carving techniques to create their works.

When the carving is completed, we can see from the rough product that the original natural cracks of the jade have been removed through pattern combination and carving techniques. The small ornament is very perfect, and the water and color adjustment are just right, which visually makes the whole small ornament have a deeper base color and more water head!

After polishing, it is paired with a customized wooden base, which immediately catches people's eyes. The exquisite jade and the elegant shape make this work so intoxicating from every angle!

Looking closely at the carving of Guanyin's form, one can see that her face is full, her expression is kind, her clothes have flowing lines, and her figure is well proportioned. Every detail is carved delicately and exquisitely, and the overall feeling is grand and solemn.

Look at the boy again, he is white and plump, with a cute expression, playful movements, and a lively look.
