I often hear people say that jade is "too deep". In fact, if you understand some jargon, you won't be afraid of the deep water.

Thick pile, pile

Thick pile is the combined thickness of the length and width of the finished jade product, that is, it has a certain thickness and the horizontal surface must be relatively large. To put it simply, it means it is thick and big.

In the jade industry, when a customer is selecting a treasure and he or she is attracted by it and feels that it is right, and the first impression is that he or she likes it, then we say that the treasure is right (it suits your taste). There is no price involved here, it’s just about your “feeling” or “impression score” about something.

price

In jade transactions, many friends who are new to the business feel confused by the price of “small six prices” given by merchants, and think it is “industry jargon.” In fact, to be precise, it is not the price, but the price range. (Not only jewelry companies often say this, other industries also say this)

Price expression method: 1, 2, 3 are small, 4, 5, 6 are medium, 7, 8, 9 are big, five and six are the price digits (for example, 10000 is a five-digit number). Combined, the big five is 70,000~99,999 yuan, and the small six is ​​100,000~399,999 yuan.

How much is the opening price: For example, if the opening price is 3 in Xiaoliu, then the price starts with 3 in Xiaoliu, that is, 300000~399999.

Small, medium and large mixed: for example, big, medium and large five and small, small and small six refer to the large numbers in the medium five price (60,000~69,999) and the small numbers in the small six price (100,000~199,999) respectively. It has the same meaning as the “how much” above.

Water head

Water head is often referred to as water, which refers to the transparency of jadeite. High transparency is called long water head and full water head, while low transparency is called short water head and poor water head. There is also a saying about the water level, which refers to using a spotlight (point light source) to observe the transparency of jade, and using the depth of the light to measure the length of the water head. For example, a depth of 3mm is one point of water, a depth of 6mm is two points of water, and a depth of 9mm is three points of water.

Emerald

The jadeite texture refers to the cleavage plane or crystal plane of monoclinic pyroxene in jadeite. The reflection of light appears as flaky, needle-shaped or star-shaped flashes. This phenomenon is called "jadeite texture". People in the industry often describe them vividly as mosquito wings or fly wings. Generally speaking, the larger the monoclinic pyroxene grains, the easier it is to observe the jadeite texture. (After polishing or with excellent water quality, the jadeite is basically invisible to the naked eye)

Green

Sauce Cui, also known as Sauce Green, is a counterfeit, a kind of jade with artificial color added. It is almost the same as C goods, but the emerald green is specially dyed green.

A goods, B goods, C goods

Grade A jadeite: refers to jadeite that has only been machined and whose color, structure, transparency, etc. remain in their natural state, i.e. natural jadeite;

Jade B: refers to low-grade jade that has been treated with strong acid and rinsed to remove impurities and stains, and then filled with glue or epoxy resin glue to fill the space lost by acid erosion. The jade that has been treated in this way will be marked as "Jade B" or "Jade Processed" on the appraisal certificate;

C-grade jadeite refers to jadeite and its finished products that have been artificially treated with foreign dyes or drugs. The method is to use high temperature and high pressure to infiltrate the dye into the originally colorless jade, dyeing it completely or partially into emerald green or purple, etc., but its color will fade and darken over time.

Rigidity

Jade has a very fine texture, with very tight bonds between the grains and high hardness. Through polishing, it achieves the perfect unity of light, shape and craftsmanship. The light is clear and sharp, with a strong contrast. The extremely pure jade surface makes the refractive index effect significant. The optical effect produced makes people feel as hard and strong as the surface of steel, with a cold and cool feeling.

Qiying

Jade has high transparency, good water head, fine grains, and evenly and orderly arrangement. When light passes through such jade, the edge will refract a bright line, which we call fluorescence. It is easier to glow on jade with a certain curvature or curved surface. It is an optical performance.

Glue

As the name suggests, it is like solidified glue. When you rotate it, it will look like flowing glue as the light on the surface acts on it. The light refracted on the surface of the jade is a whole piece and continuous. The reason why the surface of jadeite can become sticky is that the crystal particles inside the jadeite are very small, so the sticky substance can appear on the surface.

cotton

The cotton in jade is a floc-like, colorless inclusion, which exists between the particles and gaps of jade in a translucent to slightly transparent manner. Common cotton comes in the form of threads, ribbons, strips, clumps, clouds, etc. Cotton exists in almost all jadeite. Even the best old pit glass-type jadeite can faintly show cotton in the crystals. This is what the saying “no cotton, no jadeite” means.

Underground

It refers to the texture of jade, which is mainly determined by its structure, transparency and impurities. The professional description refers to the comprehensive performance of all aspects of jade except green.

pit

Pit is a rather vague concept. One refers to the difference in mineral deposits. When the mineral deposits are formed during scouring and transportation, the original stones with fine texture, sufficient water and good color are called old, otherwise they are called new pits. The second refers to the different mining times of the mineral deposits. The earlier mined mine is called the old mine, and the later mined mine is called the new mine.

The biggest significance of old pits and new pits now is the different quality of the materials. The materials from old pits are very fine, have long water head and positive color, while the materials from new pits are coarse, have poor water head and color. But old pits and new pits are not absolute.

Cracks

Those that grow inside and cannot be picked out are called strands, and those that can be picked out and touched by hand are called cracks. Strands and cracks are those that grow inside and can be felt on the surface. Cracks are the natural enemy of jade, because the value of jade with cracks will drop sharply.

Pine flowers

Loose flowers refer to some lumps, patches, and strips that are vaguely visible on the surface of jade, like dried moss. It is the trace left by the green color of the original jade raw material gradually fading after weathering. Based on the color depth, shape, direction, amount and density of the pine flowers, one can infer the depth, direction, size and shape of the green color inside them.

Spicy color

Green is the main color of jadeite, but green also varies unpredictably due to different shades. If the green color of a piece of jade is bright, rich, and prominent, different from the common mild green, it can be called "spicy"! The word "spicy" reveals the beauty and eye-catching charm of jade, and also vividly expresses the unique temperament of jade that is lively, fashionable and jewel-like.
