Jade Half Face Makeup: One side is an angel, the other side is a devil

Jade Half Face Makeup: One side is an angel, the other side is a devil

The story of half-face makeup comes from the Southern Dynasties. Concubine Xu Zhaopei often only painted half of her face to mock Emperor Yuan of Liang because he had one eye. This kind of half-face makeup, with one side radiant and radiant, and the other side without makeup, makes the appearance of two people look very different in appearance. This situation sometimes also occurs in jadeite.

This is a jade bracelet that a netizen took a fancy to two days ago. At first glance, it looks very beautiful, with a fine and glutinous white base and the emerald green part is very fresh and rich, like a sweet little beauty, making people want to take it home.

But when I turned it over again, I was surprised to find that the base had become dirty, the water head had become coarser, and the green color had become less and lighter. One could not help but ask, is this still the same bracelet? It's like an angel on one side and a devil on the other.

So is it the same jade bracelet? To confirm this, netizens posted another picture:

Looking from the inside, we can see some signs.

But why does this happen? Some netizens have figured out the reason, which is that "there is water everywhere where there is a dragon."

What does “There is water everywhere with dragon” mean?

"Where there is dragon, there is water" is a jargon in the jade industry. It sounds rather profound and people who don't know much about it may be confused. In fact, the most important words in this sentence are "dragon" and "water".

"Dragon" refers to the green part on the jadeite raw stone. Since the green color of jadeite often extends in bands, like a dragon coiled on it, it is called "dragon" ; and "water" refers to the water head of jadeite, or the degree of fineness and transparency of jadeite.

Therefore, what is meant by “there is water everywhere where the dragon is” is that the parts of the jade that are concentrated with green color often have better water head and a relatively delicate and warm texture.

Why is there water everywhere where dragons are?

Most jargon is a summary of experience, and there is often a certain scientific basis behind it. As the saying goes, it is not enough to know the fact, but also to know the reason behind it. So what is the principle behind “wherever there is water, there is dragon”?

This starts with the formation of native jade:

Native jade roughly goes through four stages: rock formation, jade formation, jadeite formation and deformation . Among them, rock formation and jade formation are important stages in jade formation.

The diagenetic stage is the initial formation stage of jadeite, which is the formation of relatively pure jadeite rock through magmatic activity or metamorphism deep in the earth's crust. Jadeite in the diagenesis stage has a rough texture and white color.

The jade-forming stage is when jadeite rock is metamorphically transformed through dynamic metamorphism in a closed environment with certain temperature and pressure. The originally coarse crystal grains become finer and the pores between the jadeite mineral grains are effectively eliminated.

As a result, the texture of the jade becomes delicate and moist, the structure becomes tighter, and the transparency is greatly improved, making the jade reach the grade of jade.

If the metamorphic transformation process of jadeite in the rock-forming stage is more thorough, it will be completely transformed into the product of the jade-forming stage. The jadeite has a delicate and warm texture and is transparent and clear, such as glass and ice jadeite.

If the metamorphic transformation process is not thorough, impurities will appear. In many medium and low-grade bean-type, taro-type, and dry white jade rough materials, one can see both rough white jade remnants from the rock-forming stage and fine, transparent and warm jade from the jade-forming stage.

Jadeite in the diagenesis stage contains relatively few color-causing trace elements and they tend to be dispersed, so the color of jadeite is mostly white.

During the jade formation stage, trace elements such as Cr, Fe, Mg, etc., which tend to be dispersed, will migrate and enrich. Similar components are concentrated on each other. When the trace elements are enriched to a certain content, the jadeite will appear in color . Cr will appear emerald green, while Fe, Mg, etc. will appear dark green or bluish green.

Therefore, the jade-forming stage not only makes the texture of jade more delicate, but also leads to the production of color. Therefore, the green parts of jadeite often have a finer texture and better transparency. This is commonly known as “there is water everywhere where the dragon is.”

Sometimes this difference is too strong, which is what another jargon calls "high green comes out of shitty land." After the finished product is made, the half-face makeup at the beginning may appear.

What is the use of knowing that “there is water everywhere where there is dragon”?

Based on the characteristic of "water everywhere in the dragon", we can distinguish natural jade from dyed jade: as long as the green part of natural jade is, the transparency and fineness will be better and higher.

On the contrary, the transparency and fineness of the green and white parts of BC dyed jade or glue-injected dyed jade are basically the same .

Even BC-grade jadeite has a loose structure in the white part, which is the part most susceptible to acid corrosion and glue injection, making the white part more transparent than the green part. The green part also appears less delicate and rough, which is significantly different from natural jadeite.

Therefore, when buying jade, jade lovers can also judge the authenticity of jade by the "dragon and water everywhere" effect.
