Chinese landscape paintings are deeply loved by the Chinese people. No matter whether it is calligraphy or jade carvings, the half of the landscape in the paintings, with its poetic and picturesque meaning, is the most profound sedimentation of the Chinese people's emotions. Carvers use different methods to record the beauty of Chinese landscapes. Today, I will share with you the whole process of carving landscape pendants by Zou Wantong:

This is a piece of glutinous jade with a bean-colored base and floating green color. The quality of the jade is average, but the texture is delicate and the color is refreshing green. It is a rare and good material.

Zou Wantong's designs are not only meticulous but also rich in landscape content - high mountains, flowing water, small bridges, big trees, tall buildings, waterfalls... The designs are small yet profound, combining emptiness and simplicity with ingenuity, forming a landscape painting full of harmonious beauty.

This is a perfect material and there is no need to consider factors such as avoiding cracks, so shallow relief is mainly used in the carving process. Shallow relief can make the carving of details more delicate.

After the rough work is made according to the design drawing, you can vaguely see the feeling of mountains and rivers. The rough work is done to preserve the parts with strong emerald color, and the lighter parts are made a deeper layer to make the water head look more transparent.

By shining a light on the rough draft, even if the work has not yet been finely carved, the landscape painting has already appeared before your eyes, with green distant mountains and trees, pale clouds and lakes.

Just like Chinese ink paintings, although there is no realism that is difficult to distinguish between true and false, it has a seemingly true and false artistic conception!

After fine-carving the rough piece, the rough product we see looks like the design drawing is directly moved onto the jadeite. When the editor saw this rough product, he was also amazed at Master Zou Wantong's carving skills.

The exquisite craftsmanship is not only reflected in the delicate carving of every detail of the landscape pendant, but also in the harmonious beauty created for the entire pendant. This is what we often call "similar in form and harmonious in spirit"!

After polishing, it can be seen that although the water quality of the material is average, the polishing effect is still good. Although there is no glue, because the material is delicate, the glossing effect is very good and the emerald green is also very bright.

The back is also carved with a landscape theme, echoing the overall theme of the creation. The work is carved on both sides, which is convenient for water diversion and shows the craftsmanship.
