Through these 8 ways of identification, I have a deeper understanding of jadeite

Jade has a texture as smooth as jade and bright colors. It is not only beautiful to wear, but also has investment and collection value. But how can you buy natural jade? Today, the editor will teach you several methods to identify real and fake jade.

1. Observation

There are four diagnostic methods in Traditional Chinese Medicine: looking, smelling, asking and palpating. Jade identification also relies on these four methods. First of all, you need to understand the appearance of jadeite, so start by "looking". Pay attention when looking at surface features, and use tools such as a magnifying glass and flashlight when necessary.

If the jade has been filled, due to the large difference in hardness between the filler and the jade, obvious grooves will be visible at the original cracks of the jade. The filler is obviously concave and lower than the two sides, forming a criss-crossing groove. Sometimes the filling is rough, and sometimes you can see gelatinous matter and residual bubbles.

Orange peel effect: When jade is placed in a position to reflect the light source, the jade looks similar to an orange peel effect when observed from the reflective surface.

Look at the impurities in jade: Natural jade is bound to have certain impurities. The worse the quality, the more impurities there are. This is also a commonly used method to measure the authenticity of jadeite. If it is washed with strong chemical acid, the impurities will be washed away.

2. Color

The quality of jade is judged by its "type, water, and color", so these three aspects have become areas where counterfeiting is most serious. During the "looking" stage, in addition to observing the fillings and acid etching marks, you should also pay attention to the color.

Acid corrosion is the production method of B-grade jadeite, but there is also a kind of counterfeit product that is first acid-etched and then dyed. The product is called "B+C goods". Acid corrosion will seriously damage the structure of jadeite, and the internal structure will change the optical reaction, which will directly manifest itself in the lack of layering in the color distribution of jadeite.

After soaking in acid solution, the bottom becomes whiter and whiter, with green floating and distributed, which looks very unnatural and fake at first glance.

3. Gloss

Similarly, the most obvious manifestation of acid corrosion is the impact on the luster of jade, that is, "water".

After the first step of soaking in strong acid and strong alkali, the structure of the jade becomes loose, and the second step is the filling mentioned above. The fillers used are usually resins and plastics. Although it is transparent, the gloss is different. The resin luster is waxy, while the jade luster is clear and direct, a kind of clear glass luster.

4. Weight

Don't underestimate the weight method. It requires basic skills. You must know the weight of the jade before you can use this method.

This requires learning and practice, accumulating experience, and mastering the method of cognition is to find out that the density of natural jade is 3.33. Natural jade will have a very obvious feeling of pressure when you hold it in your hand.

5. Sound

In terms of sound recognition, the tapping method is mainly used. Similar to weight identification, it requires some experience accumulation. First of all, you should know that the sound made by real jade is crisp and pleasant. It sounds crisp and bright.

The structure of processed jade has been destroyed and the mineral particles are filled with colloids, so the sound when knocked is very different. This method is very suitable for identifying real and fake jadeite.

However, the editor does not recommend using the knocking method to identify the authenticity of jadeite. The identification results will not be 100% accurate. Why do you say that?

First, using the impact method to identify jadeite can easily damage jadeite jewelry. Excessive force may cause the jadeite to break, which is not worth the loss.

Secondly, some A-grade jade on the market has poor texture and a crisp sound, but it is still different from real jade. There are also some B-grade jadeite, which may make a very crisp sound due to a short acid soaking time or partial filling, but the uncertainty is too great.

6. Incision

For jadeite with cuts, you can use a high-power microscope to observe the cuts. On the cut surface of genuine jade, there are usually very obvious irregular patterns, which show the delicate structure of the jade inside.

Old jade, ice jade and satin are all uneven, showing the delicate structure of jade. However, fake jade cannot produce false internal structures. Under a high-power magnifying glass, the cut of fake jade is still bright, which is an obvious sign of artificial processing.

Of course, the prerequisite for this identification method is very special. No one would be willing to destroy jade to determine its authenticity!

7. Fluorescence

If there is fluorescence, it can be used to identify B-grade jadeite. Most early B jadeites have fluorescence, and the fluorescence distribution can be seen under ultraviolet light.

However, after years of innovation and processing, the fluorescence intensity of jade has become weaker or even non-existent, making identification increasingly difficult. Moreover, not only B-grade products will fluoresce, but some A-grade products that have been washed with fluorescent powder will also fluoresce, so the identification results may not be accurate.

8. Identification agency

If you only rely on your naked eyes and experience to identify jadeite, negligence is inevitable, but scientific identification instruments and real data will not lie!

Some friends may ask: What if the appraisal certificate is fake? Yes, the appraisal certificate may also be forged, but you can find other appraisal agencies to check! According to what Daxia has learned, no one is willing to be an organization that issues false certificates, no matter how small the certification organization is, because no one is willing to do something that will ruin their own job!

“You get what you pay for.” Today, prices in the jade industry are very transparent. There is absolutely no place where you can buy good products cheaply. Usually, most cheap products are fake. We shouldn't be greedy and buy fake jade!
