Can a certificate prove that the jade is genuine? Master the identification skills and grasp the last straw

Nowadays, many consumers know that they should ask for certificates when purchasing jadeite, but have you ever thought about it, but do you really know how to read the jadeite certificate? Some merchants will say that my jade is A-grade and has certificates. Jade certificates are indeed an important basis for proving authenticity, so there will be unscrupulous merchants who make fake jade certificates to deceive consumers. Therefore, it is very important to learn about jade identification certificates. Many novices do not know how to read the contents of jade identification certificates. Let's learn about it below:

First check the logo on the certificate

1. CMA is the mark of qualified metrological certification of testing institutions. Institutions with this mark are legal inspection institutions.

2. CAL is the mark of the testing and inspection agency approved by the national quality review. The agency with this mark is qualified to make arbitration inspection conclusions.

3. CNAL—the logo of the national laboratory.

Any of the above three marks is valid, especially the first mark CMA, which is the basic requirement of national law for testing and inspection agencies.

Specific contents on the jade identification certificate:

Check the appraisal result. If it is not natural A-grade jadeite, the result will not be marked with words such as "A-grade" or "natural". Please note that only if it is natural A-grade jadeite will a certificate with the result of "jadeite" be issued.

If it is B-grade jadeite, the certificate will state "Jadeite (processed)", "Jadeite (injected with glue)", "Jadeite (B-grade)" or "Jadeite (optimized)" under the appraisal result.

C-grade jadeite will be marked with "jadeite (dyed)";

For D-grade jadeite, the word "jadeite" will not appear in the appraisal certificate. If it is a substitute, the name of the substitute will be indicated, such as "artificial glass", "dyed quartzite", "Xiuyan jade", "Malaysian jade", etc.

Check the jade identification certificate, which should also contain some basic physics information of famous jadeite.

Refractive index: 1.66 (This is the refractive index of jadeite that is unique to it and different from other gemstones)

Density: 3.33 (also the characteristic that distinguishes jade from other gemstones)

Magnified detection: fiber interweaving structure (this is a structure unique to jadeite)

Absorption spectrum: 437nm absorption line (a unique absorption spectrum of jadeite)

Color filter examination: No reaction (some dyed jadeite will turn red under the color filter)

Optical property: aggregate (jade is an aggregate of micro-minerals)

Fluorescence: None (some B-grade products will have a fluorescent reaction after injection)

Appearance characteristics: glass luster (some B-grade products will have a waxy luster)

How can we tell from the certificate whether the institution issuing the certificate is authoritative?

National Gems & Jade Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (NGTC, often referred to as “NGTC”). The National Jewelry Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (NJQSIC, also known as "First Inspection") is a very authoritative appraisal agency. Certificates are an effective way to determine the authenticity of jewelry and jade: the most direct way is to look at the picture on the certificate and the actual object.

There are many institutions that are qualified to issue formal certificates, so the styles and types of certificates are also diverse. Currently, there are more than 140 certificates that can be found on the Internet. So how do you distinguish which certificate is more authoritative or how do you distinguish the authenticity of a certificate? On the back of the certificate we can see three logos: CMA, CAL, ilac-MRA & CNAS. What do these logos mean?

Domestic certificates must have CMA certification. What does CMA mean? CMA is the national mandatory metrology supervision certification. There are many certification marks for the certificate, but CMA is the most basic LOGO. Then a formal certificate must have a steel stamp. A certificate without a steel stamp is most likely fake. A real certificate has two main points: CMA and steel stamp. We can see many stamps on the certificate, but if we want to judge how authoritative this certificate is, we need further confirmation. The first one is the national mandatory certification CMA, and the second certification LOGO is CAL.

CAL is a higher level of certification. CAL means that it has passed the authorization of metrological supervision and is a national review and approval (acceptance) laboratory. CAL is the mark of testing and inspection institutions that have been approved by the national quality review. Institutions with this mark can obtain authorization from the national quality supervision department, can undertake statutory quality supervision and inspection tasks issued by national administrative agencies, and are qualified to make arbitration inspection conclusions. It can be seen that the testing agency with CAL authorization undertakes the administrative behavior of statutory product quality inspection, which has law enforcement nature. The prerequisite for having the CAL mark is to have the CMA qualification. Having CAL means that the work quality and reliability of an institution have gone one step further than those with only CMA.

CNAS is the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment. The committee is established and authorized by the National Certification and Accreditation Administration, and is responsible for the accreditation of relevant institutions such as certification bodies, laboratories and inspection agencies. The “CNAS” mark indicates that the testing and equipment capabilities of the quality inspection center are accredited by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment.

ILAC is the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation, which aims to establish international cooperation in promoting international trade by increasing the acceptance of test and calibration results issued by accredited laboratories. Currently, CNAS has replaced the former China National Accreditation Service for Laboratories (CNAL), but continues to maintain the status of my country's accreditation bodies as parties to the Multilateral Recognition Agreement (MRA) in ILAC. CNAS is a voluntary certification system organized by the China National Accreditation Service for Laboratories. The test reports issued by accredited laboratories can be stamped with the seals of CNAS and ILAC, and the data issued are internationally recognized.

Secondly, the signatures of the appraisers on the back of the certificate must be the signatures of two different people. One is signed by the appraiser and the other is signed by the inspector. Again, if the appraisal result is Grade A jadeite, the result will be printed with: "Jadeite carving", "Jadeite pendant", "Jadeite bracelet", "Jadeite inlay";

If the identification result is not A-grade, the identification result will be printed: "Optimized Jade xx". Special reminder! ! ! ! Most of the regular and legitimate merchants nowadays will attach a jade identification certificate when selling high- and mid-range jade products. We can check the contents of the certificate on the jade certificate inquiry website.
