Jade knowledge sharing: The origin of jade

Man takes care of jade for three years, and jade takes care of man for a lifetime. Only if we take the time to play with and understand the connotation of jade, can we truly appreciate the true beauty of jade while nurturing it. On the one hand, we can improve the gloss and transparency of jade by playing with it, making it more beautiful and spiritual; on the other hand, the process of touching jade can bring physical and mental health to people and educate their lives.

In ancient times, jadeite was a bird that lived in the south. It had very beautiful feathers, usually in colors such as blue, green, red, and brown. Generally, the male of this bird is red, called "fei", and the female is green, called "cui".

Nowadays, people habitually use the word "jade" to refer to Burmese jade. I believe that many people are not very clear about the origin of jade. Today, the editor of jade knowledge sharing will give you a brief introduction to the origin of jade.

The jade production area of Myanmar is only 150 kilometers away from the Yunnan border of my country. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, this area was under the jurisdiction of Yongchang Prefecture. Due to historical reasons, jadeite, known as the "Oriental treasure", has been imported into my country through border towns such as Tengchong and Ruili in Yunnan for four or five hundred years.

Jade belongs to the pyroxene family, with a monoclinic crystal system and two groups of complete cleavage. The main component is sodium aluminum silicate NaAl9 (Si2O6). Jadeite is considered jade only when it contains more than 50% sodium aluminum silicate. It is produced in metamorphic rock formations formed under low temperature and high pressure. It is often associated with blueschist, muscovite, lawsonite, aragonite and quartz. The Mohs hardness is between 6.5 and 7, the specific gravity is between 3.25 and 3.35, and the melting point is between 900 and 1000°C.

Over the long years, our ancestors created many auspicious patterns that symbolize their yearning and pursuit for a better life. These auspicious patterns incorporate the appreciation habits of the working people and reflect people's kind and healthy thoughts and feelings. Therefore, they are widely circulated in society and are loved by people.

Auspicious patterns have been widely used on jadeite throughout the ages. “Wearing gold shows wealth, wearing jade ensures safety.” The auspicious patterns carved on jade are vivid and lifelike, and varied. The materials include figures, objects, animals, plants, etc. The contents express the wishes for good fortune, longevity, safety, many children and grandchildren, promotion and wealth.

Jade is a treasure in the hands of the Chinese people and the soul in their hearts. Gold and silver have their price, jade has its destiny. The categories of jade carvings include jade Buddha, Ruyi, peace knot, bamboo joints, longevity lock, lucky beans, Pixiu and so on. It has rich meanings, such as a happy marriage, dragon and phoenix auspiciousness, good fortune and longevity, top honors, three consecutive promotions, and good luck.

Most of the high-quality jadeite on the jewelry market comes from the Quaternary and Tertiary conglomerate secondary jadeite deposits in the Wulou River (Jiang) basin in Myanmar. They are mainly distributed in the mountains of northern Myanmar, which is about 240 km long from north to south and 170 km wide from east to west.

In 1871, primary jadeite deposits were discovered in the Wulou River Basin of Myanmar. Among them, the four most famous deposits are Dumao, Mianmao, Panmao and Nannaimao.

The primary jadeite rock is mainly composed of white jadeite rock with various shades of green, brown-yellow and light purple scattered around. In addition to jadeite minerals, there are also minerals such as diopside, hornblende, nepheline and albite. There are very few green jadeites that reach gem grade.

In addition to Myanmar, other countries in the world that produce jade include Guatemala, Japan, the United States, Kazakhstan, Mexico and Colombia. The characteristic of jadeite from these countries is that very few of them reach gem grade, and most of them are some carving-grade craft materials.

More than 95% of commercial grade jadeite on the market comes from Myanmar, so jadeite is also called Burmese jade.
