Is Grade A a good product? What is BCD jade?

The specific characteristics of natural jade are as follows:

1. Color roots: Color roots are places where the green color is very rich. The color roots of natural jadeite can be clearly seen under the sunlight, especially the green jadeite. Green will diffuse around the color root with distinct layers. Under strong light, the color will become lighter or disappear, but the color root is still green overall. However, the internal structure of processed jade is destroyed and it has no color roots.

2. Heavy weight: Natural jade has a high density and feels heavy when placed in the palm of your hand.

3. Strong gloss: Bright and natural in the sun, with a glassy luster and a refractive index of 1.66.

This kind of natural jade is usually transparent, with a smoother surface, clear and natural internal lines, and does not fluoresce under ultraviolet light.

Why is jade divided into ABCD?

The true representative of jade in the jade world is A-grade jade, which has always been favored by the market. There are also some merchants who make fake jade in pursuit of profits, which are what we often call B-grade jade, C-grade jade, B+C-grade jade and D-grade jade, all of which have been artificially processed.

Usually, B-grade jade is also natural jade, but its base is very poor and cannot reach the sales level, so it can only be pickled and then injected with glue (epoxy resin glue); while C-grade jade is usually artificially dyed before being sold; B+C-grade jade combines the characteristics of the first two: pickling and injection of glue + dyeing. D goods are various substitutes that imitate jadeite, similar to glass, agate, and other types of jade.

Secondly, these fake jades will go through several steps of material selection, processing, bottom washing, glue injection, grinding and polishing. Most of them will choose jade rough materials with poor water head and cheap price.

How to fake jadeite

As the saying goes, "laymen look at color, experts look at quality", which is enough to show that the quality of jade is more important than color. If the color of a piece of jade is beautiful, but the quality and luster are not good, then it is not worth buying; on the contrary, if a piece of jade has good quality and bright luster, but the color is slightly worse, it will not affect its wearing and collection value.

Therefore, in the jade market where good and bad people mix together, you must keep your eyes open and never let unscrupulous businessmen take advantage of you.

From overall dyeing to partial dyeing--imitation blue floating flowers

It is precisely because of the understanding of the consumer psychology of laymen that fake jade has a lot of room for development. In the past, jade pendants were dyed throughout, and the entire piece of material would have the characteristics of dyeing. Later, partially dyed jade appeared on the market. It was not emerald green, but gray-green or bluish-green. The color was distributed in dots and strips, which was very similar to color roots. Therefore, many people were easily confused and even thought it was the original blue flower jade! When encountering this situation, you need to be especially careful. As long as you are careful enough when identifying, you can effectively avoid making mistakes: the colored parts of A-grade jadeite are often more transparent than the colorless parts.

From high-quality imitation to low-quality imitation

In the early days, people all pursued emerald green jade, and imitators catered to their tastes by imitating high-quality, brightly colored jade. Little do people know that nothing can escape the spotlight under a spectroscope. A very obvious absorption band will be shown based on the network distribution characteristics of the dye, and it will be easy to tell the real from the fake at a glance. But now it is different. Dyed jade is mostly developing towards lower quality, and the color is also changing from emerald green to oily green or blue water jade. Precisely because the value of Oily Green and Blue Water Jade is not high, people often do not suspect that they have been dyed. However, any forgery cannot be separated from scientific verification, and a spectroscope can still clearly capture the dye absorption band.

Yin Yang Jade

One of the common counterfeiting methods used by merchants is to use good jade on one side and splice and paste fake jade on the other side. When encountering this situation, you need to carefully observe its color and whether the gloss transition is natural.

Polishing powder dyeing

Use fake and inferior products to pass off as mid- and low-end jadeite. In the past, there were too many counterfeits of high-quality jade, so many consumers became wary and chose mid- and low-end products. Usually this type of jade is not expensive, but the quality is very good. However, buyers are often easily confused and fall into misunderstandings. At this point, you need to identify whether the jade has been polished with powder: the main component of polishing powder is talcum powder. The dye can only adhere to the surface of the jade and cannot penetrate into the inside, so if you wipe it with cotton cloth dipped in alcohol, the color will fall off, but this will not happen with natural jade.

Glass impersonating icy jadeite

It is easy for people to mistake the green, transparent and bright ice jade for ice jadeite, but in fact it is just a kind of glass. If you feel that it is the same color and clear as a beer bottle, then do not believe the merchant's sweet talk, as it is most likely a fake.

It can be seen that high-quality emerald green is no longer the target of imitation, but those less eye-catching colors and varieties are the favorites of imitators.

In addition to the several major characteristics of A-grade jadeite mentioned above, there are some tips to help you identify the authenticity:

1. Ultraviolet light identification

This method can be used to screen out B goods and C goods. In a dark environment, turn on a UV light and observe whether the jadeite fluoresces. If it fluoresces, it is definitely fake jadeite. However, with the upgrading of imitation techniques, this method may not be able to detect all fake jadeite, and some B-grade jadeite may not be able to be detected. It can only be said that it can detect authenticity to a large extent.

2. Check for defects

Because it is purely natural, it is inevitable that there will be flaws, such as black spots. In addition, natural jade has no bubbles. On the contrary, only jade that has been imitated or artificially processed has bubbles.

3. Check whether it is coated

In order to make the color of jade look better, some merchants will coat a thin film on the surface of jade, which will not be smooth when touched by hand, but if you look at it with a magnifying glass, you will find obvious damage, which means it is fake jade.

4.Test certificate

The last step in polishing natural A-grade jade is wax steaming, using colorless wax for protection. However, if it is B-grade jadeite, colored wax may be used to deepen the color of the jadeite. Therefore, any jade that is not A-grade jade will not pass the instrument detection. Therefore, you have to believe in the formal certificates issued by national testing agencies. Generally, A-grade products will be marked with the words commonly known as A-grade products. B-goods and other products will be marked with words such as artificial optimization or bleaching.
