Afraid of being cheated when buying jade? First learn to distinguish between A, B, and C goods

First of all, B-grade and C-grade jade are relative to A-grade jade. A-grade jade is natural jade, which has not undergone any treatment such as glue injection, strong acid soaking and dyeing except carving, grinding and polishing. B-grade jade is jade that has been soaked in strong acid and injected with glue for optimization, while C-grade jade is jade that has been dyed. The products that have been soaked in strong acid and dyed are B+C products.

Characteristics of B and C goods:

1. Usually "brick" materials are used to make B and C goods. First of all, "brick" materials are also natural jade, but the texture is dry, rough, and the structure is loose. It is basically waste. In addition, the price is very cheap and the cost is very low.

2. Since B and C goods have been soaked in strong acid, which is harmful to the human body, they will cause allergies, redness and swelling after contact with the body. Long-term wearing can easily induce cancer, so the harm is huge.

3. Although B and C goods look flawless, due to the injection of glue, wax and dyeing, the glue and wax will crack and fall off over time, and the color will become darker and darker. In short, their durability is very poor.

4. If B and C products are sold as natural A products by unscrupulous merchants, it will cause irreparable economic losses to consumers.

Identification of B and C goods:

The most authoritative way to identify jadeite is to go to a professional testing agency at the provincial level or above for testing and to issue a certificate. Professional testing methods include measuring density, refractive index, fluorescence, etc. However, many jade lovers do not have such conditions. Also, how can they roughly judge when purchasing jadeite, and distinguish whether the jadeite is natural A-grade without the help of professional instruments? Here are some methods that jade lovers can easily master:

1. Look at the luster. The surface of natural jade has a strong glass luster and is one of the brightest varieties among many jades. In places where there is bright light, there will be obvious highlights on the surface of natural jade, showing a strong glass luster. As the jade rotates, the highlights will move quickly, looking crystal clear and lively. Processed jadeite often lacks highlight zones, and its surface has poor luster and is relatively dull.

2. Observe the overall appearance of B-grade jadeite and you will find it is clean, without any yellow, brown, black, gray or other spots that are common in natural jadeite. Because most of these impurities are iron or manganese oxides, they are easily dissolved and washed away when exposed to acid. The green and blue parts are composed of minerals such as chrome jadeite, omphacite, and amphibole, which cannot be dissolved by acid.

3. Transparency is inconsistent with the mineral principles. After B-grade jadeite is processed, the originally coarse mineral particles with poor transparency become very transparent, which completely violates the natural phenomenon that fine particles have good transparency, while large particles have poor transparency.

4. Weigh the jade. The density of natural jade is 3.33g/cm2, and the density of acid-washed jade is 3.25g/cm2. Therefore, B and C goods are generally lighter than natural jade. Natural jade will feel cool when held in the hand, and has a strong pressure.

6. Listen to the sound. Gently hit it with a hard object, and natural jade will emit a clear and pleasant sound, while the processed jade will make a dull sound.

7. Look at the color roots. First, the color of dyed jade is brighter and the color saturation is high. Second, look at the color roots. Colored natural jade will have color roots, while dyed jade generally cannot have color roots.

6. Look at the price. As the saying goes, “People don’t know the goods, but money can.” If the quality of the jade is very beautiful, but the price is obviously lower than the market price, then it must be B or C grade. There is no such thing as a free lunch, and there are not so many cheap things in the world. Also, try not to buy jade products in tourist markets.
