Finally I know the origin of the story of jadeite being the "king of jade"

Jadeite has always been called the "king of jade", but few people knew that this reputation actually came from the writings of the great writer Guo Moruo.

Guo Moruo wrote a poem "The King of Jade" to describe jadeite, and called it "the king of jade". This is how jadeite's "honorary title" came about and became widely praised.

King of Jade

The king of jade is called jadeite, which is radiant and brilliant.

The rich green of spring makes my heart beat, condensing the fragrance of ancient virtues.

It is easy to distinguish between merits and flaws, but it is difficult to distinguish between humans and ghosts.

Through the door, Tao Ran gambles on stones.

The first sentence, " The King of Jade calls it Jadeite ," defines the identity of jadeite and summarizes the entire poem. There are tens of millions of jades in the world, but Guo particularly loves jadeite, which is the only one that can be called the king of jades.

With a general grasp, the next three sentences describe jadeite in terms of water, color, and rhyme respectively. The meaning of "Han Yao" is not difficult to understand. It means containing magical brilliance, and "Han Yao Shang Liu Ying" means that the jade is full of water and dazzling.

Water head is an important criterion for measuring the quality of jadeite, but it is very easy to be overlooked. Many people know that the color of jade is important to look at, but if it is just a mass of color, it will probably only leave an impression of being dull and without any spirituality, which is unworthy of the title of "King". Therefore, it can be said that the water head allows jade to be colorful, lively and charming.

"Dark green, spring heart beats" obviously refers to the color of jadeite. In nature, the colors of jade are ever-changing and rich. People usually call the red color of jade "fei" and the green color "cui".

Rich green, bright red, fresh violet and clear white are all loved by people, among which green is the most precious. The vivid description of "Spring Heart Beating" expresses the feeling of people's heart pounding and their hearts fluttering when they see the emerald green.

The word "凝装" in the next sentence means temperament here, which can be said to be a personification technique, comparing jade to a woman of noble status. "Gudexin" means that the fine tradition has been passed down and carried forward.

Everyone knows that jade has five virtues, which is the highest evaluation of jade. Only when a person possesses these noble virtues of jade can he be called a gentleman. Therefore, jade is not only a beautiful stone, but also a symbol of spirit and culture in people's minds .

If the first four sentences are an interpretation of jade from the material and spiritual aspects, then the last four sentences are about gambling on jade . “

“It is easy to distinguish between flaws and beauty, but it is difficult to distinguish between humans and ghosts” means that compared with the unpredictable human heart, the flaws and brilliance of jade are still easy to distinguish.

But in fact, it is very difficult to distinguish the quality of jadeite raw stone. A piece of jadeite raw material may have a very good surface and may show green when it is cut for the first time, but it is very likely that the green will disappear when it is cut for the second time. This is a common occurrence. But these are nothing compared to human nature.

“It is easy to distinguish the flaws from the merits, but it is difficult to distinguish between a human and a ghost.” Jade is used here to compare the human heart, and it is also a reminder for everyone to keep their eyes open when purchasing, and not to be fooled by the sweet words and deceptive tricks of unscrupulous sellers.

The next sentence "transparent opening" is a term used in jade gambling. Opening the door is also called opening the skylight. Because the jade raw material is wrapped in a layer of skin, it is unknown whether the inside is good or bad, so a piece must be cut from the raw material for observation, which is called opening the door.

It is a very advanced skill to infer whether there is color inside by looking at the partial opening. But the incision is only a part of the jade and cannot represent the whole jade, so the risks involved can be imagined.

The word "Taoran" in the last sentence "Taoran gambles on the stone" originally means leisure and joy, but it is obviously not suitable here, and should be understood as addiction.

In the past, the buying and selling of jadeite raw stones was the most mysterious transaction in the jewelry industry. Its mystery lies in the word "gamble". If you win the bet, you will go to heaven and become a rich man overnight; if you lose the bet, you will go to hell and become a pauper overnight.

Perhaps it is precisely because of this kind of luck and excitement that many people can't stop. Even to this day, there is no instrument that can quickly determine through this outer shell whether the inside is "precious jade" or "rotten cotton". This is what is called "golden outside, jade on the outside, rotten cotton on the inside"! This is also one of the reasons why jade has always been considered mysterious.

This poem by a literati contains all aspects of jadeite. It can be seen that Guo Moruo's love for jadeite is self-evident and he has conducted in-depth research on it .

In the long history of the development of jade culture, jade is a treasure left over after hundreds of millions of years of sedimentation. It gathers the essence and aura of heaven and earth, and expresses the yearning for a better life.

Jade has profound meaning , symbolizing good luck, longevity, warding off evil spirits and disasters, family harmony, peace and tranquility, and career success. Jade not only has external beauty, it also has rich connotations.

It is beautiful and intelligent, not flashy or frivolous, but quiet and elegant, which is exactly the personality that Chinese people pursue and admire; its texture of both hardness and softness, toughness, gentleness, and rich inner charm is just like the portrayal of the Chinese people; it represents a yearning, a sustenance, and an inner peace and calmness.

Compared with sparkling diamonds, Chinese people, influenced by traditional culture, have greater enthusiasm for fine, round and colorful jade. The jade works made into exquisitely carved jade bracelets are the embodiment of the Chinese people's implicit, restrained and unyielding spirit.
