Experts tell the story behind the jade pendant! Do you know how many styles it has?

Jade peace locket is a very common carving subject and also a jade ornament with a very long history. Jade peace locket had a name very early on, called "Nostalgia".

Let’s first talk about the origin of the jade peace locket.

There are two theories about the origin of the Ping An Kou:

1. Ancient round copper coins

Ancient copper coins were round in shape with a square hole in the middle. As the saying goes, “the sky is round and the earth is square.” In the eyes of the ancients, nothing was bigger than the sky and the earth. Therefore, it can ward off evil and ensure safety.

In addition, the jade pendant is made of copper coins, so it has the meaning of rolling in wealth.

2. Ancient round jade bi

In ancient times, jade bi was a ritual vessel used for offering sacrifices to heaven. It is a royal artifact. Its shape is round and the hole in the middle is also round, which is closer to the style of the current jade pendant.

There is an old saying that goes "Gold represents wealth, jade represents safety". The ancients, especially the powerful and scholars, loved and played with jade.

There is also a little story about the jade bi that guarantees safety:

During the Spring and Autumn Period, Guan Zhong once helped Prince Jiu to compete with Prince Bai for the throne. Guan Zhong shot Prince Bai in the chest with an arrow, and Prince Bai fell to the ground.

Guan Zhong thought he had successfully shot and killed Prince Bai.

In fact, although the arrow seemed to hit Gongzi Bai's chest, he was not injured, because there was a jade disk hanging on his chest, which just blocked the arrow head.

Gongzi Bai pretended to be dead, and when Gongzi Jiu let his guard down, he made secret plans and finally seized the throne. Prince Bai was the famous Spring and Autumn Period overlord Duke Huan of Qi in history.

Therefore, in the eyes of the ancients, jade is the most effective object to protect people from harm and safety. No matter what happens, they will always carry jade with them.

Even after death, a large number of jade artifacts would be placed in the tomb as burial objects to protect themselves.

Having said that, all jade lovers will understand that the most important thing about the jade pendant is safety, followed by wealth. After all, we only have one life. If you don't have peace, no matter how much money you have, it will be useless.

Next, I will tell you about the several shapes of jade pendants we have now!

1. Mother-child peace buckle

This kind of peace locket is in the form of an outer ring and an inner buckle, that is, there is a circle of rings on the outside and a round buckle on the inside.

Generally, the outer ring and the inner button are made from the same piece of material, and the two are connected together by a rope.

It means that mother and child are connected and protect each other.

2. Bead-shaped peace buckle, sometimes also called peace bead

This shape of peace locket is not common in jadeite and mostly appears in amber or Hetian jade carvings.

Because its shape is very similar to fish eyes, some people call it "fish eye button".

3. Classic peace buckle

This type of peace locket is the most common one we have, which is divided into two types: arc shape and cylindrical shape.

The inner hole of the arc-shaped peace locket is round, and the locket body and edges are also polished into a smooth arc surface. Ordinary arc-shaped peace lockets have a thickness of 3-8mm.

Those with a thickness of more than 10mm appear thicker and are also called bagels.

The cylindrical peace locket, as the name suggests, looks like a short cylindrical shape.

4. Carving Peace Buckle

The so-called carved peace locket is a button with different themes carved on it, mostly Pixiu, dragon, Qilin and other themes.

This kind of button has a carved main body in the middle, while the outer part retains the classic round shape. Strictly speaking, this kind of carving should be classified as a decorative piece rather than a button, but it is often called a button in some jade markets.

5. Tibetan Peace Buckle

This is a very ancient shape, which is basically not seen in jadeite. It usually appears in Hotan, amber, beeswax and southern red.

Its outer ring is square, not round, and the hole in the middle is round.

6. Inlaid peace buckle

As the name suggests, it means adding gold or silver inlay to the outer circle of the peace locket.

This method is an emerging form that is linked to fashion. The inlay styles are ever-changing. In theory, any style you want can be designed and made.

Therefore, inlaid peace lockets have more advantages in meeting personalized needs.
