Ink is the most elegant of all arts, and emerald is the most noble of all jades.

Black jade mainly includes two types: jadeite black jade and omphacite black jade. Jadeite jadeite is mainly due to the presence of dark minerals such as amphibole or graphite. Diopside jadeite appears shiny black like ink under reflected light, but under transmitted light, it will show a rich green color. Because of this unique property, people in Myanmar gave black jadeite a very romantic name - lover's shadow.

The Mohs hardness of black jadeite is slightly lower than that of ordinary jadeite, and it has a fine texture, making it an excellent material for carving and polishing. Therefore, the carving craftsmanship of black jadeite is often more exquisite. In terms of technique, a combination of sanding and polishing is often used, and the edges of the carvings are thinned. The thin parts emit a green light, and the thick parts are like new ink, with its own flavor.

The appearance of the black jade is all natural, with no noticeable difference, but the subtle fragrance from it comes in like a stream, slowly and soothingly. The ink color is better than the finely crafted works of Huizhou Prefecture during the Wanli period; the emerald green is comparable to the green of the crown feathers of the peacock, a spiritual bird. With such splendor, what can resist it, and it also extinguishes the thought of trying to compete.

If the surface of black jade is like ink, the belly is like emerald, it is as clear as the blue sky, as invisible as floating dust, and as hard as rock, if it is carved by a skilled craftsman, even if it is only a few inches in size, it can be a precious treasure in the world. The essence of the dark jadeite undoubtedly coincides with the spiritual manifestation of "great wisdom appears foolish" pursued by the ancient Taoist school.

Black jade is buried deep under the surface, its output is scarce, and the amount mined is also quite limited, with a market share of less than 1%. High-quality black jadeite has been recognized as one of the fastest growing varieties of jadeite in value. In the past decade, the price of raw materials of black jadeite has increased nearly a hundred times. Judging from the current situation, it will still maintain a strong upward trend. Black jade not only has breathtaking aesthetic value, but also has considerable collection, value preservation and appreciation functions.
