The process of making jade beads. It turns out that this is how beads worth millions are made...

01. Material selection

Jade bead necklaces have extremely high requirements on raw materials, requiring good quality, good and uniform color, and no flaws or cracks. This is too difficult for naturally formed jade.

And when faced with such material, how many people dare to make beads? This lays the foundation for the high price of jade bead necklaces.

In addition to good quality, water content, and color, you also have to consider the size. If you can only make two or three beads from a piece of material, you can't even make the simplest single-loop bracelet and you have to wait for the next piece of material.

02. Cutting

After selecting the material, I start cutting. Use a saw to cut away any cracks or damaged areas. Then draw the diameter of the beads you want on the raw material, and then cut it. Each circle is a bead.

03. Chamfer

Jade beads that have been cut are generally squares or cylinders, and the edges and corners must be removed. This requires a chamfering machine to remove these edges so that the beads can be ground on a large scale.

During this process, the edges and corners of the jade raw materials will gradually be worn away, and the shape of the beads will basically take shape.

04. Grinding and drilling

Although the chamfering machine can remove the edges and corners of small jade beads, it cannot grind the beads into a very round shape, so a bead grinding machine is needed to grind them into a round shape. Under the operation of the bead grinding machine, the small jade pieces will gradually be ground into spherical shapes after chamfering.

Next, you can start punching holes. Generally speaking, good beads are punched after the parts are selected manually, while ordinary beads are punched using ultrasound.

05. Polishing

Finally, the finished jade beads undergo the final finishing process - polishing.

Generally, beads with a diameter of more than 20 mm are polished by hand, and beads with a diameter of less than 20 mm are polished by a vibration barrel. They are then strung together into a string, and a jade bead necklace is completed.

So, when it comes to jade, being daring enough to carve beads does not mean being "stupid". In addition to requiring a lot of courage and insight, it also requires extremely high experience and skills. Otherwise, if you can't carve good beads, everything will be in vain!
