Senior Jade Appreciation Knowledge: Top-quality Mu Na Jade Snowflake Cotton

Thousands of years of Chinese history have nurtured, created and developed China's traditional jade culture.

What is "jade"? The Chinese jade culture, which has a history of thousands of years, has a very broad definition of "jade". Any beautiful stone that is suitable for carving and decoration can be called "jade". There are many types of natural jade, which present different forms due to their different chemical composition, density, hardness and refractive index. Therefore, natural jade is divided into jadeite and nephrite.

Jadeite is jade, which is produced in Myanmar. Jadeite, with its unique composition and excellent texture, has become the "king of jade" and is deeply loved by people. Its beautiful appearance, delicate and warm feel and its considerable investment and collection value make it the best among Chinese jades.

Jade comes from Myanmar, and the quality varies depending on the mining area. The old field is the place that was excavated first, and the corresponding new field is the newly excavated site. Therefore, the old field and the new field themselves have no meaning. However, people who know about jade know that jade from old mines tends to have more stable quality and a higher output rate. The stones from Xinchang are often of poorer quality and have an unstable output rate. Mu Na and Moshi Sha are both materials from traditional old mines, which explains why more and more buyers recognize jade produced from mines such as "Mun Na" and "Moshi Sha".

Mu Na is one of the important and famous old mining areas in the Phakant mining area. Due to its long mining time and small reserves, its output is relatively low. The mine is famous for producing full-color materials with uniform color. The jade contains relatively obvious dot-shaped cotton, including imperial green, sunny green, and boxwood green. There has been a sunny green full-color glass type, and occasionally there will be seedling green with good water head. There are relatively few cracks and the types vary greatly, ranging from bean type to glass type, mainly bean type, glutinous bean type and glutinous type, ranging from medium-coarse jade to fine jade.

The jade produced in Mu Na is delicate and oily, with a good old base and few defects. Generally, the base is white or emerald green. The ice and glass green colors are extremely rare, so there is a risk of gambling, especially with the "covered head material". Stonemen are particularly fond of the stones from the old Muna field. Some people describe the "Muna Stone" like this: the sea and the sky are one color, dotted with snowflakes, the beginning of chaos, and "Muna" is supreme.

Typical characteristics of Mu Na jade:

1. Dot cotton

2. Red skin

3. Belt Green

4. High starting price

The bead necklace in the picture below is made from a piece of rough stone weighing 120 kilograms. This rough stone was discovered at the Muna mine in late 2002 and is owned by two overseas Chinese, Jiang and Wang, who are engaged in jade mining in Myanmar. After discovering this rough stone, they spent more than a year and went through many rounds of repeated research. Finally, they decided to take out 57 small pieces from a "color band" of the jadeite raw stone, polish them into beads, and string them into a necklace. This not only combines the best parts of the original stone, but also, because the jade beads do not need to be inlaid or carved, the natural and original beauty of the jade can be displayed to the greatest extent.

It took four years of collecting materials and polishing to complete this jade necklace, and industry insiders estimated its value at over 100 million yuan. At present, this necklace has not been named yet. The person in charge of Colorful Yunnan said that they will offer a reward of 100,000 yuan in total for this "national treasure" jade and publicly solicit names from all over the world.

After Hong Kong and Taiwan jade merchants processed the colorless jade discarded by the Burmese into exquisite jewelry in 1971, this high-grade colorless Moshisha stone became a popular commodity. Although the traditional jade community rejects this colorless jade, the highest quality (water quality) of jade it embodies has completely overturned people's traditional aesthetic concepts. The wonder of Moshisha lies in the fact that it produces two of the highest levels of jade: gluey jade and fluorescent jade.

What is the reason for the formation of ice jadeite cotton wool?

The cotton wool in ice jade refers to the translucent, slightly transparent white mineral deposits in the form of patches, strips, filaments, and ripples inside the jade. The primary component of white minerals is nepheline, followed by pyroxene, analcime, etc. and some gas-liquid inclusions. The reason why the cotton wool in ice jade is formed is due to the arrangement of the crystal structure inside the jade, and also due to impurities.

Is it good to have cotton wool in ice jade?

Is it good for ice jade to have cotton wool? Cotton wool is indeed one of the characteristics of ice jade. Generally, the less cotton wool, the better. The presence of a lot of cotton wool in jade does not mean that the jade is ugly. For example, the "Muna Jade" among the ice-type jade is famous for its white cotton wool inside. The cotton wool in ice jade is also called "stone flower", which is a manifestation of its value. However, as a high-grade jade, its value is reflected in many aspects, not just the cotton wool.

Generally speaking, the presence of cotton has a profound impact on the quality of jadeite. This influence can be good or bad. The good influence can greatly increase the charm of jade and add a lot of value to it; while the bad influence will become a flaw in jade, making it lose its luster and greatly reduce its value. However, cotton wool is a natural advantage for ice jadeite, and the cotton wool it forms adds a lot of color to ice jadeite.

It is normal for jade to have cotton and lint. Nowadays, it is rare to find very clean materials in items that are priced no more than five figures. The cotton in ice jade is sometimes mistaken for cracks. In fact, it is cotton wool. There is nothing wrong with a little cotton wool as long as it does not affect the beauty of wearing it. Flawless white jade must be of extremely high value. Cotton wool is other mineral deposits. The primary mineral component is albite, which exists when jade is produced. Other types of jade also contain albite, but the occurrence state is different. In addition, jade from ice to glass types is highly transparent and easy to find.

There is a kind of ice jade cotton wool called snowflake cotton. Snowflake cotton is the most unique one among all jade cottons. It is characterized by pure white color and lightness. It floats inside the jade and blends with the species, becoming a part of the structure, like flying snow in midwinter, floating in the sky yet quietly and flawlessly, without a speck of dust, and soft and soft. Snowflake cotton can be clearly observed with the naked eye because it mostly exists in ice jadeite with excellent quality and water. If it is well distributed and of good appearance, it can also increase the value of ice jadeite.
