Why is jadeite said to have great prospects for investment and collection?

Since ancient times, jade has been regarded as the "stone of heaven" and the "essence of heaven and earth". Jadeite, as the "king of jade", is loved by people for its bright colors, warm texture and elegant taste. Jade, which comes in an extremely rich variety of colors, is more in line with the aesthetic tastes and cultural psychology of the Chinese people than other jewelry. It provides a wide range of choices for jade collectors and has become an enduring collection trend for hundreds of years.

1. Collection depends on knowledge and vision

With the frequent mining of jade, its resources are on the verge of exhaustion. High-grade raw materials from old mines have become difficult to mine, and good jade is becoming less and less. As a result, the price of jade has increased several times or even dozens of times in the past ten years. "Gold has a price, but jade is priceless." In the collecting world, high-end jadeite has a higher collection value than other precious jewellery. What is even more peculiar is that the jade market is still continuing an ancient trading method - gambling on jade. It turns out that there is a layer of skin of varying thickness on the surface of jade ore, which makes the jade ore look no different from river pebbles, so people can only rely on betting to judge the quality of its interior. Even with advanced technology today, there is no instrument that can penetrate the skin and see the quality of the jade inside. Therefore, the quality of jade can only be revealed after it is cut, but the results of gambling on jade are often unexpected. It is said that the Myanmar government holds two jade public auctions every year, bringing together a lot of jade raw stones and attracting jade merchants from all over the world to come for appraisal.

Jade not only has colorful colors, but also has infinite varieties. There are dozens of types including glass, ice, egg white, glutinous, lychee, bean, and dry green. It is very difficult to find exactly the same jade. In addition, jade has its own unique physical properties. It has excellent pressure-bearing capacity, toughness, and heat resistance and is not easily damaged. Therefore, there is no unified quotation for jadeite collection. It depends on people's understanding and vision of jadeite, which makes jadeite more exciting to collect and invest in.

2. Unique cultural charm

Chinese people have loved jade, and this has been a reputation since ancient times. It was not until the late eighteenth century that the protagonist of Chinese jade culture gradually changed from white jade to jadeite. But what is little known is that there are five places in the world where jade is produced, and only one of them, Myanmar, can reach gem grade. Geologists analyzed that hundreds of millions of years ago, the Eurasian Plate and the Indian Plate collided in the local area and produced a large fault. The magma deep underground moved upward along this fault and finally crystallized to form jadeite, which is the main mineral that makes up jade.

During the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, jadeite raw stones were brought back to China by caravans traveling through the jungles on the Sino-Myanmar border, made into jewelry, and became popular among the people. According to historical records, jadeite replaced white jade as the "king of jade", which had a lot to do with the love of the Qing Dynasty royal family. From Emperor Qianlong to Empress Dowager Cixi, emperors of every dynasty had a special fondness for jadeite, which directly influenced people's love and collection of jadeite in later generations.

Although jade is produced in Myanmar, its discovery, mining, carving, wearing, appreciation and collection are inseparable from Chinese culture. The beauty of jade lies in its delicacy, warmth, implicit elegance, and is a typical oriental classical beauty. From the perspective of traditional national culture and character, jade is more suitable for the temperament and character of Oriental people. For example, the four colors of jadeite, green, red, violet and blue, are known to have the beautiful meaning of "happiness, wealth, longevity and prosperity", and are therefore more favored by Eastern peoples.

3. Huge investment prospects

Jade has greater collection value than other jewels due to the uniqueness of its origin, the complexity of its mineralization and the uncertainty of its output. It is reported that specialized auctions of jadeite have only been held in China for five or six years, but auction data statistics show that market prices are in the early stages of climbing, the number of participating customers is also growing steadily, and the rate of return on investment is roughly between 16% and 21%.

Judging the quality and identifying the authenticity of jade requires the accumulation of long-term practical experience and the touch and feel of the actual jade stone. Ordinary people should focus on collecting jade, and real-scale jade investment should be made with caution.

The editor believes that if one is involved in jade collection and investment, one must have a certain understanding of jade culture. Usually, jade identification not only looks at the quality, but also pays attention to the four characteristics of "water, ground, color, and craftsmanship". "Water" refers to the transparency of jade. "Di" refers to the bottom seal of jadeite. "Color" refers to the color, water head, flesh and texture of jade. Jade carving is divided into southern, northern and Shanghai schools. The southern school emphasizes fine craftsmanship and elegant appearance; the northern school focuses on rough and bold style and grand appearance; and the Shanghai school pays attention to figure carving and smooth lines. As the saying goes, when it comes to identification, jadeite with excellent "water, ground, color, and craftsmanship" is worthy of bold investment and collection. Experts suggest that the collection and investment of jade should focus on mid- and high-end varieties and medium- and long-term operations, as the investment return rate of low-end products is slightly lower.

4. The market is full of fakes

Generally, jade is divided into A, B and C grades. A-grade jade refers to natural jade that has not been artificially processed other than carving. The longer it is worn, the more moist its texture becomes and the brighter its color becomes. People call A-grade jade "live jade". B-grade jade is also made from natural jade, but it usually has poor color or contains impurities. In order to make the jade look good, it needs to be soaked in concentrated acid to dissolve impurities and then glue is injected into it. The B-grade jade that has been treated in this way is called dead jade among the people and does not have the spirituality of natural jade. C-grade jade is made from colorless and poor quality jade that is dyed with color, which is usually unnatural. D-grade jade is not jade at all, it is an imitation of jade.
