Many jade lovers who have just entered the industry are confused. When merchants introduce jade, they always say that jade has “a delicate and clean base makeup”. What exactly is “base makeup”?

In fact, "foundation makeup" refers to the "base" of jade, which is an intuitive feeling that jade gives people at first glance, including the inside and outside of jade. It can be said to be an indicator for comprehensive aesthetic evaluation of jade.

When we choose jade, we generally consider the three aspects of color, texture and transparency. The base of jade is the characteristic of the light green base part other than green, including the texture (type), transparency (water), gloss, clarity and hue of jade.

Many people confuse the bottom of jade with water, and many people name the bottom of jade according to the characteristics of its transparency, such as ice bottom. In fact, the bottom of jade not only includes the indicator of transparency, so fundamentally the bottom of jade and water are not the same concept.

The evaluation of jadeite bottom needs to be based on two key elements and three general elements. The "two key elements" refer to the texture and transparency of jadeite, which is what we often call type and water. The "three general elements" refer to the luster, basic color and clarity of jadeite.
