To distinguish B and C grade jadeite with naked eyes, just look at these three points

It is not necessarily reliable to identify B and C grade jadeite with the naked eye. The most accurate touchstone is the appraisal certificate. However, in the actual purchasing process, not every product will come with an authentication certificate. We can't just take the items away for inspection, so mastering some simple and basic methods of identification with the naked eye is still very useful in real life.

So, how do you distinguish B and C grade jadeite with the naked eye?

First, see if the surface is smooth.

It is best to use a 10x magnifying glass, which is available in most jade shops. The surface of natural jade is smooth, especially jade with good water quality, which is crystal clear, moist and smooth. Because B goods have been pickled, there are often some corrosion pits on the surface.

Second, look at the color and gloss under natural light.

The refractive index of natural jade is 1.66, and it has a strong glass luster. The better the quality of the jade, the more transparent it is, and the color is fresh and natural. The luster of B and C grade jadeite is generally poor, and most of them have no fluorescence. Moreover, if you look closely at the edges, you will find a faint blue-purple light, which is reflected by the organic colloid filling.

Third, look at the structure under the light.

Natural A-grade jade has a clear structure, and the better the quality, the less obvious the structure. Even after polishing, the scratches and polishing lines on the surface are orderly and along the same direction. However, B-grade products have been pickled and often have corroded structures. Because the various minerals contained in jade have different solubility degrees, spider-web-like acid etching marks will be produced after acid washing.

It is not necessarily 100% accurate to distinguish B and C grade jadeite with the naked eye. Some B and C grade jadeite are so real that it is difficult to distinguish them. But if you look at it from the simplest aspects, and if there is something wrong with the surface, color, structure, etc., then there is most likely something wrong with this jade.
