Jade rings need to be cleaned, but are you really using the right cleaning agent?

A small jade ring is a very important accessory in decoration and often plays a finishing touch. However, after wearing the jade ring for a long time, dirt will often hide in the gaps of the ring, which is very difficult to clean. Many people use liquid cleaning solutions, which can reach into the crevices of jade rings and make cleaning jade rings easier, but are you really using the right cleaning agent?

Choosing a Cleaner for Jade Rings

1. Clean water

It’s okay to put a natural jade ring in warm water. In order to enhance its beauty after carving, jade is often coated with Sichuan wax. When cleaning, you can soak it in high-temperature water at 60 to 70 degrees Celsius for a short time to clean the dirt attached to the wax, but don’t soak it in boiling water, otherwise it will damage the surface of the jade and affect the gloss.

2. Jewelry Cleaner

Jewelry cleaners contain ammonia, which not only cleans gemstones but also makes metals brighter. Ammonia is safe for most gemstones, but not for pearls and porous gemstones such as turquoise and amethyst.

3. Neutral cleaning solvent

Natural jade rings must be cleaned with a neutral detergent solvent because they are mostly aggregates of minerals and must avoid prolonged contact with acids or alkalis.

Cleaning steps for jade rings

When cleaning a jade ring, first take a small bowl, pour an appropriate amount of warm water into the bowl, then put the jade ring into the bowl and soak it again. Then add an appropriate amount of neutral detergent into a small bowl, put the jade ring into the bowl and soak it, and take it out after about thirty minutes. Take out the jade ring and gently scrub it with a soft brush. Then, rinse the jade ring in a small stream of water. The water must be small and not irritating. Place the cleaned jade ring on a soft and clean cotton cloth and gently wipe the jade ring with the cotton cloth.

Be careful to use gentle techniques when wiping and avoid scratching the jade ring. We can also use satin to wipe the jade ring, because wiping the jade ring with satin can not only clean it, but also protect it from being scratched. Finally, we need to check whether the jade ring is still intact, especially to check whether there is any looseness in the details. If you find that the jade ring is loose, you should immediately send it to a jewelry store for repair to avoid the ring face falling off and causing damage.
