Eight categories of jade rough materials and eight purchasing tips!

Classification of jadeite rough materials

1. According to the formation time, there are old factory and new factory jade raw materials and "new and old factory materials".

2. According to the excavation time, jade rough materials can be divided into old pit types and new pit types.

3. According to the location where the jadeite raw stone is mined, it is divided into mountain material, half-mountain and half-water stone, and water stone.

4. According to the color characteristics of the jade rough material, it is divided into brick material, flower card material, spring color material, flower green material, oil green material, red and yellow jade material, tri-color material, and multi-color material.

5. According to the jade crystallization, transparency and type of the jadeite raw stone, it is divided into bean-type material, glutinous type material, fine glutinous type material, ice type material and glass type material.

6. Low-grade material: It is jadeite mountain material with inferior quality and color. The pieces are larger. The small ones weigh several thousand, the general ones weigh tens to hundreds of kilograms, and the large ones can reach several tons. Because it is priced by weight, it is also called "brick material". This type of jade raw material is only used to make ornaments, mid- and low-end pendants and low-end bracelets. Since the price of this type is lower and everyone knows the material, the purchase risk is relatively small.

7. Medium and upper-grade materials: generally used to make bracelets, jade pendants, and carvings. But sometimes it is also possible to cut out egg-shaped, stirrup-shaped and other ring faces with good colors. This type of material has a certain gambling nature. When trading, the material will be "opened with a window" or "lifted with a lid", or even "split" in half, so that both parties can see the quality of the material inside and make transactions after analysis and judgment.

8. High-grade material: refers to old jade rough material with high green color, also called "color material". When trading, one can only guess whether there is color inside the material and whether its color is pure. This kind of material can usually be seen in the market. Green can often be seen on the surface or at the opening, but fakes are very common. This type of jade rough material is the original stone for obtaining high-grade jade such as jade ring faces, jade pendants, and jade bracelets.

Eight tips for purchasing jadeite rough materials

1. When rubbing the large jade raw material into small edges, be careful when green appears on the edges. When the skin performance is average, it should be purchased at the standard of low-priced brick materials.

2. The jade raw materials have good green edges, broken edges, cut edges, and rubbed edges, but be careful when not polishing them. Such materials often have many cracks, gray bottom, irregular green color, poor water quality or black inside the green, so they are not polished.

3. Before inspecting jade materials, especially high-end jade materials, the owner will leave many traces of friction and digging when looking for green on the jade materials. These traces are some green-free areas. Be careful if a piece of jade has traces of green everywhere.

4. When a large area of green can be seen on the cut of jadeite, it is called full green, so be careful. There is a saying among the people, "I'm not afraid of a line, but a large area" (referring to green). This large area is often caused by a cut along the direction of the green, that is, parallel to the direction of the green. In fact, the thickness of the green is only a thin layer.

5. If a piece of jade has been cut off, be sure to study the small piece carefully when purchasing. Observe the gap between the two pieces to see if the green has the possibility of extending to the larger piece of jade.

6. The quality of jade raw materials produced in Myanmar varies greatly due to different origins, so it is necessary to master the characteristics of jadeite production areas.

7. When purchasing jade raw materials, you should look for tinea, scales, and loose flowers on the jade skin. These manifestations indicate that green may be produced under the skin.

8. When purchasing full green materials, you should understand the impact of the quality of water on the finished product, otherwise you may not be able to make a profit. If light can penetrate a few centimeters into the raw jade, the green will be crystal clear and beautiful, and very transparent. However, it cannot be made into a high-end ring face. If it is made into a ring face, the green may be light green or even colorless. Therefore, it is necessary to master the relationship between water and green. Generally speaking, the interior of jade that can be cut in the midday sun should be 6 to 3 mm thick, and the thickness should be used to adjust the optimal thickness of its water color.
