Four methods to identify C-grade jadeite

Four methods to identify C-grade jadeite

As we all know, C-grade jade is a product of artificial dyeing and is harmful to the human body. So, how do you identify C-grade jadeite? Since C-grade jadeite is a dyed product, identification should also start from the color. The color should be carefully observed and analyzed to make a judgment. Below are four specific observation methods sorted out by Liangyuan. Let’s take a look.

1. First impression

When you first look at C-grade jadeite, you will feel that it is unnatural, the color is exaggerated, and not pure.

2. Status under light or microscope

If you hold jade up to light or observe it carefully under a microscope, you can find that its color is distributed in a network or in clusters. Some of it is accumulated in the micro gaps of jade, and some is attached to the surface of the jadeite mineral, but is not distributed inside the jadeite crystal.

3. Uneven Color

The color of C-grade jadeite is uneven. The color on the surface is relatively thick and bright, but becomes lighter as you go deeper into the jade. In the rough areas of the jade piece, the color deepens and accumulates in the micro gaps.

4. Color change under Charles filter

The main dye of jadeite is inorganic chromium salt. When observed with a Charles filter under incandescent light, the color of C-grade jadeite turns into light red, pink, and brown-red. This color change is quite obvious and relatively easy to judge, but as counterfeiting technology becomes more and more sophisticated, some fake jade does not change color under a color filter, which makes it more difficult to identify and more deceptive.

C-grade jadeite has no collection value, and the harmful substances caused by its dyeing can also affect human health, so everyone must remember not to be deceived during the purchasing process.
